This weekend’s Caption Competition was won by Neel Jani (no, not that one):

On this day in F1
On this day 20 years ago Damon Hill surprisingly signed to drive for Arrows. Hill was leading the championship at the time but knew Williams would drop him at the end of the year.

I’m sorry but I just don’t understand the Caption Competition. But it must be pretty funny for the ones who could!

I understand it (and the reference) but it is not in the slightest bit funny.

Nor I. Seems the last couple have been inside jokes or just too clever for me!

I think dynamo is a magician, presumably named after both the energy generating device commonly found on cycles and the open source visual programming language. But I don’t get the joke either!

When asked what tricks Dynamo (the magician) could do on the grid, Bernie said to make the Mercedes disappear. He’s said for years that he doesn’t think their dominance is good for the sport. The ‘joke’ is likening this statement to Bernie’s crazy ideas to improve the racing and some people wishing he was gone. It’s hardly a side splitter but I found it amusing.

Basically if Dynamo is enroute to make Mercedes disappear then Chase Carey is enroute to do the same to Bernie. It’s worded awfully though.

I haven’t read the article, but the he Button quote about Vandoorne could have been about Hamilton nearly 10 years ago! 9 and a half years Hamilton has been in F1 for, how did time fly that quickly?!

I’m actually pleased to hear Zak Brown is being touted as Bernie’s potential successor. I’ve seen a few interviews (there are a series of them on Peter Windsor’s YouTube channel if anyone wants to have a listen) with him and he seems to be a really switched on, sensible, guy and he is a massive fan of motorsport. The fact that he already knows how F1 works is a massive plus as well.
