The cars hardly appeared on the track at all on Friday as low visibility kept the medical helicopter grounded. Lewis Hamilton did his bit to keep the crowd happy.

Romain Grosjean

Romain Grosjean’s car got away from him at the end of his first qualifying lap. It was the beginning of a difficult 24 hours for the Haas driver, who finished out of the points after a penalty left him at the back.

Antonio Giovinazzi

Sauber substitute Antonio Giovinazzi went from hero to zero. This was his first of two crashes at the final corner.

Max Verstappen

After technical problems forced him out in qualifying, Max Verstappen lined up a lowly 16th. Shortly after this picture was taken he produced a freakishly good first lap, weaving through the field to take seventh place. That put him on course for a podium finish.

Hamilton kept his lead from pole again while Sebastian Vettel, who started some way to the left of his grid box, had to settle for second. In the spray Carlos Sainz Jnr, the only driver on the grid not to start on wet weather tyres, slipped back.

Jolyon Palmer

Jolyon Palmer started his race for the pits on slicks, but like several other drivers he suffered a spin early on.

Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen

Fernando Alonso laboured away to no avail in the McLaren again, and made sure anyone listening to his radio messages knew about it.

    1. In the spray Carlos Sainz Jnr, the only driver on the grid to start on wet weather tyres, slipped back.

Keith: Sainz was the only one starting on slicks, not on full wets.

      Small mistake Keith,

“In the spray Carlos Sainz Jnr, the only driver on the grid to start on wet weather tyres, slipped back.”

It should stay he was the only driver to start on slicks.

      Great shots!

      1. Was missing a ‘not’ – thanks!

    3. A couple more desktop backgrounds to add to my album! as an aspiring photographer I always love to see all the new photos that come out of the grand prix!

      1. @aidanedgar If you don’t mind me asking; which 2, and the reasons why? Ta! Just being nosey. :-)

        1. Nah no worry’s dude, My screensaver shuffles images from a photo album on my laptop, I started this album at the beginning of last season and try to get a couple of pictures from each race weekend.
The ones I saved from this post was the one of Giovinazzi next to Perez and also the one of Romain Grosjean in the Haas. I’ve already got a couple of Hamilton and Vettel so I don’t want to use too many photos that look too similar

    4. I wanted a picture of Vettel and Ricciardo banging wheels to be in this. That overtake was one of the highlights of the race.

    5. The last pic would be awesome without the cameraman in it.
