Ivan is optimistic about Ferrari’s potential this weekend:

I am actually mildly optimistic about Ferrari for this race. This season they always run heavy in first practice, and many times we have seen them trailing the Mercedes by a wide margin in practice sessions, before bouncing back in qualifying.

Every time Ferrari show good pace in first practice and second practice, it translates into a pretty good race pace and qualifying performance. If Mercedes’ tyre wear issues on US don’t go away, we might see a very entertaining qualifying. I still expect Ham to take pole at the moment, but I also expect one of the Ferraris to be alongside him on the grid.

  1. I fully agree with Perez. K-Mag just brake-checked him on a straight-line without any apparent reason. A dumb move even if it’s just a practice session.

    1. That’s the 4th or 5th time he’s been too aggressive defending this year – and this one was in practice. Someone needs to give him a slap across the face

      1. Magnussen explains in the linked article why that incident happened, and he claims he wasn’t a defending maneuver, but that he got confused by Perez’s driving.
Also, I think it’s bullcrap that Hamilton can push Rosberg off in Bahrain turn 4 in exactly the same way, FOR THE RACE LEAD, and not get a penalty, but Magnussen does it and it’s not ok.
This has happened in Monza as well, in the Curva Grande. Alonso pushes someone else off the track, it’s ok. Vettel does it, he gets penalized.
Bullcrap! If you’re trying to overtake on the outside and the RACING LINE is gonna push you off the track, you can’t complain if the car you’re trying to overtake pushes you off the track. That’s how racing works.

@James – in case with Alonso pushing Vettel in Curva Grande – Alonso left enough space, it was Vettel who made a mistake and when two wheels off the track.
When Vettel pushed Alonso, he didn’t leave enough space. Look at the footage.

  2. Love the idea of Alonso at Williams. They need someone who can wrestle speed out of a slower car and help develop it.

Sadly, I can’t see it happening.

    1. Alonso ain’t going to Williams at this point in his career. He doesn’t need a mid-field team, and a team that can’t afford him. He is going to stay at Macca for the money. I think there are only three drives that he would accept, and you can guess which three. Out of those three, there are two, and then the two become one, but that one is saying they are happy with what they have. I bet he stays with Macca.

      1. @alex-bkk, even amongst the midfield teams, they’re not performing that well – they’ve fallen behind Force India again, even though Williams have consistently had a bigger budget than Force India over the past few years.

Realistically, it sounds as if it is a lot of hype over a fairly small move – whilst Williams have apparently had a word with Alonso’s management, the indication is that it was effectively done just to ascertain how McLaren structure their contracts. It seems that, whilst they’ve played along a bit in public to get a bit of extra publicity out of the news, they think that he is out of their league in reality and probably will stay put.

  3. Those masks are none of the right, and all sorts of wrong! Two of them look like they are scarecrow Halloween masks, and the other two like they are some bootleg knockoff which looks nothing like it should.
Vettel and Verstappen are creepy, while Bottas and Ricciardo are just random faces that look nothing like the drivers. :)

    1. The Vettel kinda works. The Bottas might actualy be Rosberg.

  4. Alonso to Williams is one hell of a rumour. If it happens, Lance Stroll should immediately vault the top 5 best drivers of the season: his money will have been worth it!

    1. @hahostolze, mind you, as some have said, Alonso would effectively be trading a car with a decent chassis and a poor engine for a car with a decent engine and a poor chassis. Effectively, all it would be is a move that might help him net a few more points in the midfield, but would put him no closer to being back at the front.

  5. Oh, thanks for the COTD! Did not expect that!

  6. Every and all Danes? Infants, kids and people with no driver license? They are all just like Kevin?

I imagine Danes are nothing like Kevin. He’s an F1 driver! From a country where cars bigger than VW Up is taxed up to 150% + 25% VAT. That makes you humble, when you encounter what most consider a regular sized car…
