   The time for the race is the worst. Why not start the race earlier and have it as a late night show on saturday-on-sunday night. Start it around midnight GMT, great time for europe, great daylight in Japan, everyone’s happy.

   I know I’d much rather stay up late on Saturday night, than wake up at 4:30 on Sunday.

      biggsy ”everyone’s happy” – You aren’t speaking for everyone, LOL. Your suggestion would mean that the race would start at around 3 am for me. For me, this race starts at 8 am same as the Australian GP this and next season, which isn’t unpleasantly early. I don’t mind having to wake up a bit early for this purpose.

      I love the early morning races! Just makes it feel extra special, still relatively dim in the morning, everyone still sleeping. I love it. Then after the race go for a nice B-road blast when there’s very little traffic on the roads.

         Yep, I agree, and also, it leaves the rest of the day to spend with family @psynrg; for me this race starts at 7am which is a good time for an early race – not middle of the night, but over before 9, so I can have breakfast with my wife after that.

   Australian TV info is wrong, I tried to update but could not post, validation problems apparently. Can’t be bothered doing it all again.

      @hohum – if you are referring to FTA in Australia, has a major shift in broadcast rights. Fox Sports & Foxtel will show every grand prix live and exclusively outside of rounds held in Australia. Ten will only show Australian Grand Prix live with the rest highlights. Ten have a result dumped Channel 4 coverage and are using Fox commentators (aka Sky Sports).

         @william, Thanks William, that is the final solution that I was trying to update to the already out of date info, but the site wouldn’t accept my info. A sad day for F1 in Oz. I don’t think I’ll have anything other than a cursory interest from now on.

      Anyone complaining about Sky F1 coverage doesn’t know how lucky you are. In the U.S. we have NBCSports (pay cable only) which means we lose almost 1/3 (!) of the race action due to commercial interruptions. They don’t even bother to send the commentators to the races and the quality of the commentating is mediocre at best and laughable at the worst, except for paddock reporting by Will Buxton which is good. F1 will never see any meaningful increase in interest in F1 unless the dump NBCSports and offer uninterrupted Sky F1 coverage or it’s equivalent.

   I finally started to see some positive signs from LM regarding the TV coverage in Sepang. Using wide shots showing the entire corner or a series of corners is, in my opinion, the best way to view F1 cars. I would love to see a long shot of the esses at Suzuka, shot from the hill on the inside of Dunlop – they used a similar shot at Maggots/Becketts and it was stunning, but I think I only saw it half a dozen times across every session. These shots look amazing and really show off the speed of the cars.

   Also, I would love if they held this shot for 30-45 seconds, so that you could get an appreciation of the gaps and how the race is progressing, who is close to who, etc. I usually watch the races with the live timing to follow this information, but if it was shown on the TV, then that would not be necessary and I could actually watch the race instead of staring at a bunch of colourful numbers for 30% of the race.

   At the moment, all we see is tight shots of the cars flashing through a corner, which, to me, is not that impressive. It’s impossible to judge the different lines of the drivers, the different braking and acceleration points. The wide view is what makes standing on the side of circuit so impressive.

   I would also like to see the helicopter shots used more often, and static shots from the inside of kerbs like we see at maggots, and on the outside walls like we see on the street circuits.
