Most drivers have opted for large quantities of ultra-soft tyres for next week’s final race of the 2017 season at Yas Marina.

Among the front runners, both Ferrari drivers and Daniel Ricciardo have selected ten sets of ultra-soft tyres. The Mercedes pair and Max Verstappen will have nine each.

McLaren and Williams have also selected ten sets of ultra-soft tyres for both their drivers, as has Sauber for Marcus Ericsson.

The remaining drivers will all have nine sets with the exception of the Renault pair, who will each have eight. Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz Jnr have each chosen four sets of the harder super-soft rubber.

    1. I wonder if Hamilton has the extra soft tyre so he can do some more testing miles.

      1. They chose this allocation long before he was champion.

    2. Why would anyone go with 2 sets of the hardest compound (in this case Soft), which is pretty much entirely useless on this circuit?

      1. For the top teams, they have plenty USs; you will need one US for Q1 Q2 Q3; maybe less, you might do Q1 on SS. They you start on the Q3 US and then change to SS or S depending on deg data.
For the other teams you need mostly 5 USs in qualy and none in the race. Everyone has this covered so they can sacrifice a US for a S for some next year testing.
