Sebastian Vettel
The championship pressure took its toll on Vettel and Ferrari during the weekend. In qualifying both cars were sent onto a dry track with intermediate tyres. They rejoined the track on slicks but two mistakes by Vettel left him eighth on the grid.
Esteban Ocon
The fans stayed late on Friday night, illuminating the stands with glowsticks.
Aguri Suzuki
A collection of classic F1 machines took to the track ahead of the race including a Benetton B189 of the type Alessandro Nannini used to score his only F1 victory in the 1989 Japanese Grand Prix, following Ayrton Senna’s controversial disqualification. Mika Hakkinen also drove the McLaren he won the race with 20 years ago, clinching his first world championship.

While Lewis Hamilton held his lead at the start a rapid getaway by Vettel raised hopes he might be able to make a fight of it.
Kevin Magnussen
Kevin Magnussen and Charles Leclerc came to blows on lap two, leaving the Haas driver with a puncture.
Kimi Raikkonen and Max Verstappen
This tangle left Kimi Raikkonen with damage and Max Verstappen with a five-second penalty. He later tangled with the other Ferrari but hung on to take third.
Lewis Hamilton
Only one car appeared in front of Hamilton all day long.

It’s a great event and I’m glad I went but the lack of other on track open wheel entertainment is a drag. I would have liked to see the F2s in action here.
