Formula 1 and Codemasters are launching F1 Mobile Racing, a new free game based on the 2018 season.

F1 Mobile Racing promises a “console-quality gameplay experience on your mobile”. It features all the teams and drivers plus the 21 circuits from the current championship.

Among the race modes available are ‘time-limited events’ which take place alongside official F1 race weekends and allow players to earn special rewards.

Players can customise their cars and develop them by collecting new parts to add in single-player mode. A multiplayer race mode for up to two human players is also available.

The game is being launched this autumn for Android and iPhone devices. The latter will arrive on Thursday 18th October, while the Android launch date is yet to be confirmed.

Codemasters also produce the official Formula 1 game F1 2018 for console platforms and PC.

This article will be updated.

  1. I wish they’d allow the use of Bluetooth pads. Onscreen and motion controls are appalling for racing games.

    1. I dunno, I have fun with Real Racing on my iPad. The motion sensors are far superior to mashing buttons or using a joystick, imo

  2. Rendering looks a bit rubbish on the clip compared to say Real Racing 3 but its good to see them branch out from gamer only consoles. Plenty of manboys like me still want to drive round in circles. Be great if it was so realistic you couldn’t get within 6 seconds of the car in front without massive aero drop off and an auto 5 second penalty for driving aggressively or in anyway that makes middle aged men gasp.

    1. LOL!

and you shouldn’t be able to get a drive unless you pay a shed load of cash or have a Billionaire dad ;)

  3. I’ll give it a go, but I rather wish you could play it on something other than a phone. I can’t imagine the touch senstive or motion controls being particularly nice for racing unless it does a lot of the precision stuff for you. Interesting concept. Though as my phone is Android I guess I’ll “wait to be confirmed”.

@rocketpanda What like the PlayStation 4 version? Or the Xbox One version? Or the PC version? Or did you just want the game for free on those platforms?

      1. @tonyyeb

Well no this seems to be a different idea to the standard version you get on PS4/XB1/PC. According to the article you can create your own car and race in events that are held as time limited events with the races – it’s similar to those games as in it’s an F1 game but it’s clearly being designed with a different philosophy? To my knowledge the standard console versions don’t have any of that customisation or interaction with F1 events themselves – this sounds like a different way of demonstrating the game. THAT I’m rather curious in.

    2. You can likely install BlueStacks (android emulator) on your PC and play it.

  4. No thanks. I’ll stick to PCars2, Assetto Corsa and iRacing with my TS-PC wheel. I’ll be sure to let my mom know though! She loves facebook games.

    1. Yeh you can tell her when she makes your packed lunch

      1. This amused.

        1. This would have been funnier if the titles were reversed but clearly these official games are the equivalent of toys for kids. I’m with @knewman.

  5. I’m afraid it will be a freeMIUM game…

    1. AKA pay to win

      1. So pretty accurate then!

        1. If they’re going for realism, the game should cost $700, but only include the 2010 HRT Car. The Merc would be a $5,000 add-on.

  6. the previous mobile version of this game was awful…

  7. I have been trying the game. It is definitly done for making money only. Design horrible. Racing and AI is awful. Duels are defined by AI crashing into the racers. Also you can cut corners as long as run of is asphalt. You can crash your opponent and get no penalties. I cannot believe this is licensed by F1. It is literally robbing the F1 fans of their time and money…
