Alfa Romeo has presented special editions of its two of its road cars painted in the style of its Formula 1 team.

Race drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi were pictured with the limited edition Giulia Quadrifoglio and Stelvio Quadrifoglio ‘Alfa Romeo Racing’ cars ahead of their launch at next week’s Geneva Motor Show.

The cars’ styling takes its cue from the C38, which was launched last week, and it mostly white with Alfa Romeo’s traditional deep red and colour and crest over the upper rear quarter.

The special edition Giulia and Stelvio also feature ‘Alfa Romeo Racing’ badges in the interior, carbon shell Sparco racing seats with red stitching, an Alcantara steering wheel and other carbon fibre details. The cars are powered by 2.9-litre V6 bi-turbo petrol engines delivering 510bhp.

Alfa Romeo has returned to F1 as a constructor for the first time since 1985. It previously competed between 1950 and 1951, during which time it took Giuseppe Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio to the first drivers’ world championship titles.

The Italian marque made a full-time return to F1 as an engine supplier with Brabham in 1976, then formed its own team again three years later. Following an unsuccessful trandition to turbo power it left F1 in 1985, though its engines remained in use for another two seasons.

  1. Oh boy! Alfa branding press release! F1-Sauber-inspired racing SUV for the street. Rich football moms will be lining up at the Alfa dealers. Next thing you know Porsche and Ferrari will be cashing on the SUV fever. Oh…wait.

The Giulia looks sharp tho. Probably gets out-sold 10 to 1 by the SUV edition.

    1. The Stelvio handles incredibly well. Not QUITE as good as the Giulia since that’s lower and a little lighter weight, but unless you’re taking them to the track it doesn’t make a tangible difference in daily driving. I fell in love with the Giulia when I drove one last fall, but inventory levels were low and there were no deals to be had at the time… but I found a Stelvio that had been sitting on the dealer’s lot for almost a year, spec’d out just like I wanted, and scored a great deal. I wasn’t in the market for an “SUV” but I have zero regrets and I look forward to driving it every day!

  2. For me, this years Alfa F1 car’s livery is the prettiest of the lot, it’s a pity they couldn’t manage to translate that to a slick paint job for their road cars

  3. As someone with a very strong, borderline (well, probably well over the border, actually) obsessive appreciation for symmetry, I could never buy an Alfa unless I lived in a country which didn’t require a front number plate. Or a country that allowed two front number plates. Unless I could shoe-horn a plate into the front grille.

    Love the Stelvio, though.

    1. :)

You would need two steering too?
