Codemasters will launch its latest official Formula 1 game, F1 2019, earlier in the year than previous editions.
F1 2019 will be launched on Friday 28th June, two months earlier than Codemasters’ previous official Formula 1 games, which the company has published since 2009. It will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.Codemasters revealed players will be able to customise their car designs for the first time in the game.
“Working in partnership with F1, for the first time ever, players will be able to get behind the wheel of a 2019 regulation car specifically designed in collaboration with F1’s technical team, headed up by Ross Brawn and Pat Symonds,” the publisher announced.
“The car, which will be available in multiplayer, adheres to the 2019 regulations and comes with a range of livery designs offering players a new level of personalisation. The 2019 F1 team liveries will also feature on the car in early marketing materials, but will be replaced by the final team cars ahead of the games release.”
Codemasters F1 franchise director Paul Jeal said the early launch for the new title means “the game can be played and enjoyed at the same time that the real-world championship picture is starting to form.
“Our close relationship with Formula 1 has played a major part in achieving this key objective for the franchise. That in addition to our near two-year development cycle, has allowed us to develop some exciting new features and other firsts for the franchise that we can’t wait to share with our community in the coming months.”

Fantastic trailer. Good abstract renderings of speed and an upbeat i could drink and drive to.

Geesh that passes as a trailer for a GAME these days? It could just as easily be for a halucegenic sports drink. 100% style, 0% content.

That last car in the video looks like an F2 car as well…

Was just about to say that, final shot of the trailer too so they wanted to tease it properly. Great stuff!

@hugh11 nice addition to the game, will make it more interesting to have someone to fight if you start your career with Williams.

The June release is a pretty good surprise. Of course having the game ready at the beginning of the season would be amazing, but I understand the difficulties. End of June means round 9, Austria, a bit before half of the season.
Personally, I can’t wait to suck on this new chapter too :D!

@m-bagattini Yes, the release day is the practice day for the Austrian GP meaning that this game will be released four races in the season than in the recent past, and yes, this earlier-than-expected release date is a pleasant surprise. I assumed this whole time that it’d be 18th of August, so now only three more months to wait instead of close to five months.

That’s even earlier than F1 2015, which was released on the 10th of July of its release year.

That game was a bit of a dog show though. Loads of bugs. :)

@willemcecchi Yes indeed. Hopefully, this game isn’t going to prove out to be similar on that front due to the earlier-than-usual release date.

A version is already available on ipad and has been for about 6 weeks. Its quite addictive though the rendering is poor and the cars just understeer off if you go in too quick. Gameplay is relatively good, particularly the duels and it is hard to overtake in full grid mode, so quite realistic!. The sync mode with the GP weekend is an excellent idea. Theres a DRS function and clutch start which is great but its a pity you can t slipstream or oversteer but it makes a nice change from real racing 3.

Rather have a new PC version of Motorsport Manager.

I forgot to add earlier: Codemasters have published F1 games since 2010 rather than ’09. The year before (2009) Wii was responsible for this gaming series/franchise.

Anyone notice the final car is not an F1 car? The pointy shark fin gives it away, more like a Japanese SuperFormula or more likely an F2?

There’s an F2 car right at the end of that video.

Love the custom livery that hints at Jordan’s 7Up cars. And the blue-and-red one reminds me of the classic Gulf livery that I associate with classic Ford GTs at Le Mans (or am I missing a reference to some other F1-related look?). If only some teams would be inspired …

I wonder if the having the custom liveries might be a hint at an owner mode being included. Having the ability to create a team, livery, and drivers, and work your way from backmarker to champion would be a really fun change of pace compared to the traditional career mode.
