I have been supporting Seb for a long time. However, Charles is ready to be No.1 at Ferrari and he proved it today. Great race by him, shame for the engine issue.

Vettel is in trouble. I never expected Leclerc to pass him so easily but I m glad he did. Too bad for Leclerc, was really depressing watching him limb to the end. Hamilton is always there to take advantage of any misfortunes. Verstappen always aggressive although it didn’t cost him today. Glad Mclaren looks much much better. Renault is just waiting for the rule changes.

    2. Ditto for your points about Seb and Charles.

    3. Got to hand it to the late Marchionne. His plan to bring in Leclerc seems like a stroke of genius. He probably saw that Vettel can’t get the job done, and got in a young and upcoming talent who will eventually get the job done.

      1. @todfod – yeah, very nice shout-out to Sergio.

That’s the truth. Vettel can’t handle pressure wherever it comes from especially when he doesn’t have the upper hand. Leclerc showed great racing values so soon.

  2. Shame on F1 for the obviously suspicious Renault issues and the incessant SC. All hail Ferrari.

    1. Those are Renault’s responsibility, though, not F1’s.

      1. @jerejj, well, it’s noticeable that most of the attempts at finding a conspiracy theory do come when the races are more chaotic, such as was the case here – it seems that the paranoia of the teams about the behaviour of others sometimes rubs off on the fans…

        1. the paranoia of the teams about the behaviour of others

Honest question here – are teams really that paranoid, or are they just suitably cautious about one another (e.g. in terms of implementing regulations)?

          1. @phylyp, to be honest, it was meant to be more of a case of exaggeration for comic effect about the somewhat ludicrous nature of some of the conspiracy theories that are sometimes thrown about.

      2. @jerejj because F1 = “F”errari “1”st

        1. They havn’t won a Championship in over a decade, and you people still beat this dead horse?

      3. @jerejj – It’s likely people will say the FIA has its HQ in France, Renault make their engines in Viry, France, so there’s the link for the conspiracy. That’s how conspiracies go, take tenuous or missing links and make a mountain out of it.

        1. You are missing a lot of weed and tinfoil hats.

          1. Its regarding the mindset of people who come up with such conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories are part and parcel of life but the ones today regarding safety car and renaults helping ferrari with podium are just out of this world.

          2. I agree, I was poking fun at the conspiracy theorists, not offering a theory of my own.

        2. F is the 6th letter of the alphabet, F+1 = 7, Charles lectern is 16, 1+6=7, coincidence they brought out a safety car to keep on the podium? Hardly.

    2. Be thankful it wasn’t the Haas cars ;)

  3. Ferrari need to sort their reliability. Seb losing it without any contact, though.

    1. Probably the vibration caused by the flat spots. But still..

      1. That still means your car isn’t up to snuff

      2. Nah, he saw that Hamilton was further ahead than the previous lap, and he only just stayed ahead then, so he then stamped on the throttle really hard too early and lost it. His mistake, and symbolic of the past few years for him.

      3. @erikje I was referring to the spin, not the subsequent front wing failure.

  4. Even Hamilton acknowldges Leclrec.

    1. Even Hamilton ? Couldn’t have shown more class..

      1. What I meant was talent of Leclrec, I hope Leclrec gets a good car for rest of season as he certainly can challenfe for title.

        1. Agreed, looks like a star is born..

          1. Stars are born everyday but how long and how consistent they will be able to shine is another question for the future….

  5. So sorry for Hulkenburg and Leclerc… In my opinion, both were amongst the best drivers today, and both got compromised, arguably Hulk more so, as he didn’t finish the race.

    1. My 2 favourite drivers on the grid. Sigh.

      1. Mine too!
        I can’t believe it… such a bad luck.
Hulk was flying today, overtaking almost everybody in F1.5 and would have been comfortably 6th in the championship. What a shame at the end!
Poor Charles missed his well desivered first victory. A champion in the making, for me!

Is this F1 or real life? Earlier this year my Renault car went to **** with engine and electrical issues. Got myself a Honda!

  7. I was all hyped up for Max getting a podium in a very bad weekend. But even now Renault is blowing up his races.

On a positive note Honda gets two top 6 positions in a row doubling last seasons total

      1. Kind of optimistic I’d say. Reliability has definitely improved – that’s a big plus and the reason they had 3 in the top 10 due to attrition. But Honda power has a ways to go.
In reality, although Versteppen drove a good race, he was a country mile behind LeClerc and Hamilton and would have included Vettel before he choked yet again.
Honda is boasting they have more coming – they had better or things will get very uneasy for them in a hurry.

  8. Ricciardo was even more unlucky should never been on a one stop

  9. So can people finally admit Ferrari were clearly faster last season now. Vettel was never the benchmark what that Ferrari could achieve.

  10. One of the nicest races I a long time. Exiting, tense and a surprise winner.
Pity they brought a sf in. A vsc would have sufficient.
Bad day for Renault, same old story.
Again 100 % reliability for Honda and a deserved 4th place.

    1. Sorry to disappoint you, but McLaren was fast, reliable and difficult to overtake, and they’re using the Renault engine too. It’s the works team that need to sort the reliability out on their side. The engine is fast enough.

    2. A Mclaren with Renault power looked as fast as a Red Bull with Honda power today. The last time a Mclaren looked as quick as a Red Bull was in 2012. Maybe jump off the Honda bandwagon for a while.. they still haven’t proven anything.

  11. So Hamilton has won 2 titles in slower cars good achievement. 08 and 2017. Vettel is embarassing people would still be saying Merc were faster if there were 2 Vettels in the car.

  12. What a shame for Charles… His time will come, he is ready for showtime. Very disappointed at Vettel… He seems off. Maybe will become No2 sooner than we all expected.

Lewis now must have only one goal now: Schumi’s numbers. The champioship is already his again this year…

    1. Bottas is ahead

    2. Why do you do this? Its absurd. Just watch. Just watch. You wouldnt bet a cent on your presuction…why make us sudfer it? Its clear the season is wide open.

    3. “the championship is already his”
Except that he is not leading and has not onr a race yet based on pure merit… Ferrari look good and so does Leclerc. Don’t get carried away yet.

      1. “Has not won a race”

  13. @kingshark Still think Vettel is betetr than Hamilton? We clearly know Ferrari were faster than Merc last year now. Vettel is no benchmark in that Ferrari. I wonder what a Hamilton or Alonso would have done with the 2016 and 2017 Ferrari now.

    1. Or Verstappen or Ricciardo (especially seeing how Ricciardo demolished Vettel in 2014).

BTW if you add the points lost (and gifted to Hamilton) of Baku and Singapore 2017, that’s also the 2017 title thrown away. Then in 2017 there were also Canada, Silverstone and Mexico where he tripped up.

It’s bizarre how Binotto in the post race interview insisted that Vettel is not to blame for yet another one of these blunders. Just an unfortunate thing that just happens.

    2. I don’t think anyone in their right mind ever thought Vettel was better than Hamilton.

Honestly, it’s been a waste having him in the Ferrari in 2017 and 2018. Alonso, Max and even Ricciardo in Ferrari would have made the past two seasons a whole lot more exciting.

I used to at least find Vettel’s spins and crashes amusing.. but even they’re kind of getting stale now.

      1. @todfod History will be very kind to you’re man i hope. Says it all people think Alonso is better with less hardware. Alonso extremely unlucky and yes it would of been far harder for Hamilton from 16 onwards with Alonso. I really wanted him to get that 3rd title with Mclaren i would happily see Alonso of gotten another 2 even. Im sure you wish he stayed at Ferrari i do, yes it would of annoyed him in 2015 and 2016 but still far better than Mclaren but then he would been two depressed i think. If only he could have seen the future 2017 would have been an awsome year and 2018 Alonso takes it for sure.

Vettel does not deserve his stats atall it is a travesty i am sorry to say. People had a go at Alonso for 07 with Ham being on his pace but we both know that they are the 2 best and you can not split them ill take Ham but atleast i can admit Alonso would be the guy id fear. Alonso never got pasted like today and overtaken on track by a 2nd year driver.

        1. I don’t know why Ferrari doesn’t fire Seb and pick up Alonso – after all it isn’t as if he isn’t available.
LeClerc made Vettel look pathetic today and the fact that Hamilton passed him and couldn’t get within 8 seconds of LEC until his engine failed says it all.
How many times have we heard Seb’s name mentioned in qualifying incidents whether on the track or in the pits.
Seb has had enough chances – he doesn’t deserve the seat he’s in.

  14. So basically if we had 2 Vettels in the car, people would still say Merc are fastest.

  15. @robbie When will you admit you were wrong about 2014 with Ric and Vettel. We all knew he could beat way past hill drivers like Webber and Kimi. Give someone younger or same age and look what happens. A nice bit of credit to Lewis would be nice for once aswell, as we clearly know Ferrari was faster last year. Vettel obviously is not a good benchmark and he as challenged 2 years in a row. Could arguably be said they were just as quick in 2016 aswell. Would be nice to have seen Hamilton in that Ferrari thats for sure.

You even said it will be hard for Leclerc to beat Seb lol. No chance he is a Hamilton and Vestappen level talent.

    1. In 2018 Vettel didn’t even really beat Kimi. It was 8 vs 8 in who came first across the line in a two car finish.

Point s wise, the gap is in favor for Vettel, but Raikkonen had 4 DNF’s which all weren’t his fault. Versus Vettel having only his own crashed out DNF in Germany. Kimi scored on average 15 points per race, so add 60 points for Kimi and they are almost equal on points too.

      1. @f1(osaurus) You are correct prime Kimi would have been way too much Kimi was not good imo in the second Ferrari stint one win is extremely bad in that car. He would have have probably won the title in his prime. Vettel has no excuse losing it last year.

  16. Ah, Renault…for the first time, as a Hulk fan, I’m not sad to see him retire from a race. He drove an excellent race, true…but the double retirement at the same corner with 3 laps to go was too hilarious for the end result to leave a bad aftertaste.

    Go Renault!!

    πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

  17. What is wrong with this guy ban pls

  18. Today a new star was born. Not a Ferrari fan up to now but I really like LEC.
Seeing him easily overtake VET and pull away from HAM is no small feat – he is flat out fast and level headed. He composed himself at a time when most would have imploded (VET, HAM and VES).
Misfortune robbed him today but Ferrari finally has their man. Good times ahead.

  19. Fastest lap point?

    1. Leclerc got it everyone was far too busy fighting cars behind so no one challenged for fastest lap point today.

      1. Mercs could have tried but I think maybe fuel concerns

  20. I don’t know why Ferrari doesn’t fire Seb and pick up Alonso – after all it isn’t as if he isn’t available.

    1. I think mid season we will see Alonso or KMag in that Ferrari. Alonso will want championship fight so half a season to gell with team ahead of 2020 season. Saying that mind they don’t need Alonso with the raw talent that is LEC. This season is going to be a classic.
