Romain Grosjean says he has no concerns over his Haas despite suffering a front wing failure during today’s second practice session.
The right-hand side of the VF-19’s front wing began to break up at turn one while he attempted a flying lap. It continued to break up later in the lap and the loss of downforce caused Grosjean to lock up and run wide at turn 14.Grosjean says he doesn’t believe he did anything to cause the failure. “I don’t think I hit any kerb,” he told media including RaceFans at Shanghai. “It collapsed in turn one. It’s quite clear on the TV footage it went in turn one and went a second time, completely, in turn 13.”
Occasional aerodynamic component breakages have been a trait of Haas’s designs. Grosjean recalled “it started with my first day in the car [at a] filming day in Barcelona in 2016.”
However he said the latest failure was no cause for concern. “We try things and obviously try to make the car as light as you can and sometimes you overdo it. Maybe that’s not even the case, I’m not a designer, I haven’t got into it.
“I’ve just finished the session, I’m more focused on getting the performance out of the car than thinking why the front wing went. I’m not worried, the guys always solve the issue. The build of the car is really impressive so I think it’s going to be good.”

No cause for concern, because they Haas spares so they can wing it.
