A new, officially-sanctioned film documentary about the life of Michael Schumacher has been produced with the support of the seven-times champion’s family.
“Schumacher”, which has been directed by German filmmakers Michael Wech and Hanns-Bruno Kammertöns, is in the final stages of production according to a report in Variety.Schumacher’s spokesperson Sabine Kehm said they are “happy this film will be in the hands of such ambitious and sensitive professionals.” The pair’s previous work includes a film about another German sporting hero, tennis champion Boris Becker.
Its release is intended to coincide with his 50th birthday and the 25th anniversary of his first world championship victory. The film will include previously unpublished footage and interviews with Schumacher’s family and rivals.
It will be released in German-speaking markets by B 14 Film and DCM. Rocket Science will begin intentional promotion of the film at the Cannes Film Festival where a documentary about another controversial sporting star, footballer Diego Maradona, will premier.
Schumacher is Formula 1’s most successful driver in terms of world championship victories (seven) and race wins (91). He retired from the sport in 2012, but suffered serious head injuries in a skiing crash the following year and has not been seen in public since then as he recovers from his injuries.

Very distasteful celebrating the 94 title, in that atmosphere too.
At least Senna died knowning Schumacher’s car was illegal. Williams put up a good fight with their number 2 playing by the rules. How different things would be in today’s culture, that eventually saw two of Schumacher’s main team personal banned for cheating again.
