  1. Stunning. And I’m stunned.

A RBR on pole. Cyril must be gobsmacked :)

    1. The gap to Gasly is immense… and he prolly isnt that bad a driver, Max is making him look really bad though :D

      1. Yeah, Gasly is busy fighting F1.5, Max is busy challenging the F1 contenders.

Marko is likely busy screening resumes :)

  2. Question for all the Merc/Ham/Toto bashers here: where’s the proof that the Red Bull is an inferior car to the Mercedes?

    1. Look at the results earlier in the season. They’re catching up now

      1. Catching up or they’ve caught up? The Red Bull (in Verstappen’s hands) has been a proper weapon for the past few races. This is the convergence Toto was talking about but so many people here were busy bashing him without actually thinking through what he was saying.

    2. @sebsronnie
As an qualified Totobasher i have to say… what? The RB car is superior but the engine aint.

    3. This is his first pole of the year and he barely beat the Mercedes at that, I dont know what you are smoking but its the good stuff

      1. Did you read the question? I’m asking about the present not Australia.

    4. @sebsronnie

      With Max, its all him.
      With Lewis, its the car.

      1. Max: 9 tenths better than teammate
Lewis: 2 tenths worse than teammate
        Just the facts

      2. @lums this terrible comment would have worked a lot better if Lewis hadn’t just been outqualified by Bottas

        1. I suspect @lums is being sarcastic here.

          1. Its all sarcasm guys!

          2. WHAT ..??
            Sarcasm.?? Yer kidding.??

      3. @lums based on? Like there is far too many subjective comments lately, I understand Max and Lewis tossing verbal jabs but the fans seem to only do this one way or another due to who they like and don’t like.

The reality is that Lewis is strong in the various cars he’s had over his career and proven it over and over. Max has also been given a top 2/top 3 car each year too (outside of the limited STR run). Yet what has always been true with both drivers is they both have raw driving talent and able to adapt and push the limits of their cars beyond their team mates many times. So why do you sit here and undermine one driver over another?

        1. Indeed, this stuff reminder me of the venomous partizan soccer fans on the BBC Sports News soccer page.
The season could get real interesting after the summer break, what could be more fun than seeing Lewis, Max and maybe Seb banging wheels for a win.
          “With Lewis, its the car”
Guess you never watched the Turkish 2006 F2 race.
Some of us have enjoyed witnessing his talent him for a while ;)

        2. +100 this… It’s definitely not isolated to this site (the F1 social media channels are horrible for it as well). We’re talking about some of the best drivers of all time, they’re all unbelievably talented. Its going to be some battle between the likes of Verstappen, Le Clerc, Norris, Russel etc in a few years, the abilities of the upcoming generation looks insane

        3. @magillagorilla
” (..) both have raw driving talent and able to adapt and push the limits of their cars beyond their team mates many times.” – Number of poles max 16-18 while driving alongside RIC: 0; RIC: 3

With max, it’s all him, while in reality he’s been outperformed 3 years in a row by RIC. GAS makes him look good, as predicted.

    5. Did you even watch the rest of the season? Some people are so blind.

  3. Ghastly tough.

        1. You spell like Gasly drives ;)

(that’s made in jest, no offence intended)

          1. Haha :D I tried to make a joke by misspelling Gasly on purpose but ended up actually misspelling ‘though’. As Alonso would say “Karma!”

          2. @sravan-pe – It’s all your fault! Since you corrected Gasly’s name, I didn’t really notice the wordplay you were going for in your original comment :)

Karma indeed, as Alonso says (and has happen to him!)

          3. Still can’t delete a comment on this site, can we :D

        2. Is amazing the difference between max and gasly, 1 sec…tells the difference about who s the better driver and by far

    1. Really, he couldnt even outqualify Leclerc who had damaged his car in Q1. It hope he humbles after this experience as I still remember his arrogant remarks at the start of season.

      1. What did he say at the start of this season? I remember last year’s “Now we can fight” at Bahrain, but I’m drawing a blank on 2019.

        1. During winter break he said something on the lines of he was at Red bull racing to give Verstappen a hard time and wont move over for him.

  4. First pole for Honda since 2004?

    1. Australia 2006

  5. F1 is back, dont change a thing.

  6. Congrats to Max for his first pole. Star is rising fast.

So pleased to see Red Bull on pole! With a Honda engine too! Brilliant job from Verstappen :)

  8. That difference between Max and Gasly

  9. Verstappen has his first pole good on him. It’s going to be a great race. Leclerc I suspect has something to prove as does Bottas but for different reasons. Hamilton still off but hopefully he will pick that up in the race. Vettel hard to say really.
Gasly needs to watch his back Norris and Sainz are going to give him a bit of stick I hope.

  10. This is all good for F1, we have a challenger!
Just what happened at that punishment detail Max went to?
He seems like a different guy, relaxed, smiling, really enjoying the moment, tis nice to see.
@Red Bull must be ecstatic, their KTM Moto GP team produced big time today.

    1. Just a shame we couldn’t have had this for the last two/three years instead of Ferrari being the only real challenge to the Merc dominant limousine…

  11. I don’t get the red bull mania, it’s like their entire history has been erased. In 2018 they got two pole positions and 4 wins and were still 3rd in the championship. Turn up at Australia in 2020 with a winning car and then i’ll get excited.

    1. It’s Honda mania. We didn’t expect the Honda PU to be this good, not this soon. Race wins themselves seemed a stretch in their first year of RBR-Honda, so to see a pole against the vaunted Mercedes and Ferrari party mode is something indeed.

  12. The Haas drivers have got their work cut out to hit each other this time…

  13. Are they all starting on the same tyre compound?
