   Don’t worry, Ferrari will one way or another manage to throw away another victory-chance.

      That’s the Ferrari we know and love, outside of the Brawn era.
      I love their team’s passion though when they do win. The only mechanics who actually sing (and dance) to their National anthem. Means a lot to them.

      With everyone starting on softs, there is plenty of opportunity to make a mess of strategy. Charles needs to keep his tyres alive – just as Vettel & Hamilton do – if he is to have a good chance of converting P1 quarry into a race win.

      The big surprise for me is Renault. I was convinced that Kimi would grab P6. With two cars at the pointy end, they stand to make a very tidy points haul.

      He was never going to be fast today due to the grid penalty.
      He will be using this weekend to get the feel of the car/team etc.
      Let’s see how he performs tomorrow.

      He will be taking an engine penalty – they fit him the new power unit spec – so RBR told him not to even try a second run in Q2.

      He has a new PU etc. so will be moved back – since they decided that yesterday, running means those that only found they had to do it today, will be pushing him forward, so that’s why he ran at all, but he didn’t need to go full speed for that, so he only did a banker lap in Q2.

      Engine penalty coming. So they didn’t really run hard in q2. He looked ok in q1.

      He has to start at the back with penalties, so he was never gonna be pushing too hard

      Nothing happened, he just went out for 1 run in Q2 but the plan for him was to always bow out after Q1 because he has to start at the back anyway as he has the spec 4 Honda fitted.

      He’s got a new engine, so he had to take a penalty anyway. Red Bull decided not to push him for no reason. They know how to look after their rookies.

   WOW! 0.748s quicker than his 4x DWC teammate… And still only 21 and only halfway through his second season in F1…

   This guy is the real deal and the future of F1 and Ferrari. I’m seriously, seriously impressed.

   Top stuff from Renault and fingers crossed for Charles to get his first win.

   Looks like there is a chance of reliability problems as well with quite a few engines going boom!

      Crazy how you can see from the times set by the midfield runners that the track got slower in Q3, and Leclerc still beat his Q2 lap by nearly half a second.

   Leclerc did fantastic, didn’t look like pole was going to be anyone else’s but his. Looking at it, I think Vettel made some mistakes on his last run but some people seem to take too much pleasure at his misfortune sometimes.

   The biggest surprise today was 2 burning cars with their engine gone. Renault pleasantly surprised with their speed. And the gap between Leclerc and Vettel is similar to what it was between Verstappen and Gasly. Everything else was more or less as expected. It’s good that tomorrow will be completely different weather, so more drama is possible. This was a good day for F1 fans!

      Yes, however, Vettel actually is a champion so that gap between him and Leclerc actually means something.

      Renault pleasantly surprised indeed but did everyone notice that Nico’s car kept blowing smoke out – wondering whether or not we’ll see that one terminal before the race is over.

   Have to think that Grosjean being pipped for Q3 by his teammate got the better deal out of that, apart from hurt pride; though I doubt he’d go for mediums (well unless Haas decided to split strategy?!), he does take fresh tyres for the start

      @faulty maybe this blogpost: lucky and unlucky grid positions at Spa-Francorchamps helps? Even though 4 of the last 5 were won by the pole sitter, 2nd still does carry the advantage of having a great slipstream up to La Source.

    Max has issues with the high power engine mode. So he actually had a very bad qualy. He thinks he can take the fight to Mercedes tomorrow. Let’s hope so. And thank god there will be a new power unit for him in Monza

       If he can fight Mercedes he can fight for the win as Mercedes race pace is better than Ferraris. Hopefully we see a 5 way fight for the win!
