Romain Grosjean says he could consider a move into Formula E next year if he loses his seat at Haas, but Formula 1 opportunities remain his priority.

The Haas driver’s future at the team is uncertain. While his team mate Kevin Magnussen has a contract to drive for them in the 2020 F1 season, Grosjean’s seat is believed to be at risk. Nico Hulkenberg, who has lost his seat at Rebnault for next season, is a candidate to drive for the team.

Asked by RaceFans at Monza today, Grosjean denied he’d made approaches to Jaguar’s Formula E team about a drive. However he admitted he follows the championship “could consider Formula E” for a career move in the future.

Grosjean said part of the series’ appeal is that “you can win the championship, which you cannot in Formula 1 if you don’t have the Mercedes or Ferrari,” Grosjean said.

“It may not be option B directly. It could be option C. Option B could be something else.” He said his first preferences would be possibles seats in F1, and has previous ruled out a move into IndyCar.

Grosjean has been with Haas since the team entered Formula 1 in 2016. He is currently 17th in the championship, one place and 10 points behind Magnussen.

    1. @amail – You’re being generous he has 4 choices in F1 before considering Option E-lectric ;)

  1. ”has previous ruled out a move into IndyCar.” – And perhaps a wise thing to do since Ericsson is there.

    1. He previously stated he’s “afraid of the ovals”. I also think he’d be afraid of the competition. As Ericsson is finding out (who’s 17th in the standings, same place he finished the F1 standings last year) there are very talented drivers in IndyCar.

  2. If staying in F1 is Option A and Formula E is Option C, what’s Option B? WEC? Or is he saying Haas is Option A and anywhere else in F1 is Option B?

    1. I suspect, if we read anything into this then Haas is probably Option A. Option B is probably another F1 team that he considers inferior e.g. Alfa Romeo or Williams? I’m guessing.

Then Option C would be Formula E.

  3. Option C?

Does Romain still think he has a shot at being in a Ferrari?? :p

  4. Yeah great talents like Santino Ferrucci.

    1. Yeah, he’s performed quite well now that he can show his talent in more similar perfoming equipment. He’s been a model citizen too. He ‘s on a podcast that explains the whole sitution in F2. I’m sure no one has heard it here. Chalk it up to beig a very young, crazy kid move.

Don’t agree that he’s been a model system, he still has an attitude problem (a dose of the Ticktums).
He showed no remorse for getting into Newgarden on the final lap, because he’s ‘racing for a championship too’. Couldn’t accept his rookie title chances are less important than Josef’s title shot. Perhaps it was just an excuse

System? Jeez I need to wake up before I post. *Citizen

  5. Option B might be some kind of simulator work or E Sports?
