F2 and F3 add Zandvoort but drop Paul Ricard for 2020

Formula 2 and Formula 3 will support the revived Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort next year.

However Formula 1’s leading support series will retain a 12-round, 24-race schedule as the French Grand Prix-supporting double-header at Paul Ricard has been dropped.

“We kept the number of events to the same amount as the previous two years as we have found the right balance between European rounds and overseas race weekends,” said Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel.

“More tracks would have liked to have F2 race,” he added, “but as always, we want to ensure that our championship remains affordable by keeping the costs under control and thus the number of events to a total of twelve.”

As this year, the next Formula 2 season will begin in Bahrain in March and conclude at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi eight months later. The championship will return to Spa-Francorchamps, where a serious crash during last month’s feature race claimed the life of Anthoine Hubert and left Juan Manuel Correa in intensive care.

Formula 3 has also confirmed its calendar for next season. It will join Formula 2 at nine of their rounds, skipping Monaco, Baku and Yas Marina.

  1. I hope they have room for all those teams or F2 and F3 teams are placed outside of the circuit?

  2. Lets hope F1 does the same…..

    1. F1 will have both. And Paul Ricard is a fine circuit. It only needs to ditch chicane in the middle of Mistral straight.

    2. It wont be an improvement, maybe visually but not racing wise

  3. Zandvoort is biting off way more than it can chew

    1. interesting to read that even Zandvoort was informed by these press releases.

  4. Would be really interesting to see the financial numbers behind these decisions. Is it really cheaper for teams to go to, for example, Bahrain, or wait for two months between Russia and the final round at Abu Dhabi instead of doing one more European race?

    1. It’s all depend on where you are.

  5. F2 cars in zandvoort! Like rockets on a kart track.

  6. In my opinion, F2 should not be support championship and should be on its own. Should be raced on tracks where F1 is not stepping in.

    1. Yeah, because people spend a day on a track just to see f2 and f3… Teams, drivers and sponsors will be delighted to race in front of no public. Financially impossible!

but drop Paul Ricard for 2020

and nothing of value was lost

  8. More affordable,
Yet they keep the trips to Bahrain and Yas Marina……..

Should simply be the euro rounds only
