“Careless mistake” caused crash in second practice – Albon

2019 Mexican Grand Prix

Alexander Albon admitted he made a “careless mistake” when he crashed in the second practice session for the Mexican Grand Prix.

The Red Bull driver spun into a barrier at turn seven, damaging the right-hand side of his car. Albon was unhurt but the damage to his car meant he took no further part in the session.

Albon admitted he lost control of the car on a kerb on the way into the corner. “That was it really,” he said. “I’ll have a look at it because it did go really quick.

“I wasn’t expecting it to go like that. But just a bit [of a] careless mistake, used a bit too much track. These things go quickly, so when it did snap it went pretty quick.”

The crash meant he missed a chance to gain more experience at a track he hasn’t raced on before. “I think we missed a good chunk of long running data as well,” he said. “So it won’t be easy. I think we’ll have to change the run plan for FP3 and then try to find a good solution for qualifying.”

However Albon drew encouragement from team mate Max Verstappen setting the second-fastest time.

“I think the car’s good,” he said. “It kind of shows what the car was like the last two years. [I’ve] just got to rebuild the rhythm a bit for tomorrow and fight for the qualifying.”

  1. so, is he fired now or just have been warned with some innocent threats afterwards…?
just really hope Mr Marko still desires mostly about Seb and Ferrari’s internal-affairs
rather than Alex’ progression with entirely new (front-running) team, team mate, car, pit crew,
engineers and – of course – there’s also a kind of different level of competition to deal with.

  2. Albon out, hulk in.
