Toro Rosso have been fined €5,000 for sending Daniil Kvyat’s car out of the pits into the path of Romain Grosjean.
The Haas driver had to swerve to avoid Kvyat as he pulled into the fast lane in front of him during Q1.
After speaking to the teams and drivers the stewards ruled Kvyat “was released from the garage in an unsafe manner resulting in car eight [Grosjean] having to take evasive action.”
Kvyat progressed from Q1 to Q2 and finished qualifying in 14th. “The car didn’t really feel great today and I was sliding around in qualifying,” he said.
“I never really found good grip on the tyres and the car didn’t click. The only decent lap I got in was the first lap of Q2, the rest I just had a bad feeling in the car.”

To be honest, i am usually very against the amount of criticism Grosjean gets for certain things. But in this case, I disagree he “had to swerve” to avoid Kvyat. Grosjean made it look a bigger deal than it was. He will have had to break, but he could have reacted sooner and avoided having to do as sudden braking or a swerve. Toro Rosso deserved to be fined, but Grosjean did over react somewhat.

i am usually the first to criticise Grosjean but i can fault Groosjean today or yesterday, No he didn’t had to swerve if he had braked earlier but he reacted to late for that it is not Grosjean fault that he had to take avoiding action

It did look curious in the sense that Romain surely saw him coming. The moment the Toro Rosso left the garage there was no way it was going to stop, they gave him the signal and that means go.
Why did he swerve (so much, and towards where people are) instead of braking? Maybe braking could be worse because if there’s a guy behind he’d ram you over, since you are not supposed to stop.
It certainly wasn’t as close as Max and Kubica in Brazil. But maybe not braking in the Portland is some sort of recommendation to the drivers. It’s not the first time I’ve seen it.

These fines are absolutely meaningless. Like €5,000 is a deterrent to a well-funded team!
