Luca Ghiotto won an uneventful finale to the Formula 2 season at Yas Marina ahead of the two DAMS drivers.
Nicholas Latifi, the only driver from this year’s championship who will graduate to Formula 1 next year, followed him home in second place, clinching the runner-up spot in the championship behind Nyck de Vries. Latifi’s team mate Sergio Sette Camara joined them on the podium following a last-lap pass on Callum Ilott.Giuliano Alesi led the field away from pole position and initially looked quite competitive, opening a second and a half gap over Ghiotto. But as the race wore on Alesi’s tyres began to drop off in the daytime Abu Dhabi heat, and his rivals pounced.
Latifi had a horrible start, not unlike team mate sette Camara’s yesterday, but managed to stay within range of Ghiotto, as did Sette Camara.
The race was fairly devoid of action bar retirements for Artem Markelov, in a point-less final race for Arden, and Sean Gelael. Both triggered Virtual Safety Car periods which further neutered proceedings.
However race one winner Sette Camara managed to land an impressive overtake on Ferrari academy driver Callum Ilott on the final lap to end his season with a double podium score. This was a useful result for Sette Camara, whose currently has no drive secured for next year.
Ilott fell to fourth ahead of Alesi, followed by the Carlin pair of Louis Deletraz and Nobuharu Matsushita. Ghiotto’s team mate Guanyu Zhou took the final point, and ends the year as top rookie.
Behind him Jordan King and Jack Aitken had a spirited tussle for ninth and tenth respectively, though it attracted the attention of the stewards, who are investigating the pair over an incident.

I’m now wondering where ghiotto, sette Camara et al will end up. Ghiotto must have a bit of speed in him.

With Mick Scuhamcher’s likely F1 introduction, Guanyu Zhou’s suprprisingly good and consistent first season, and some good talents at F3 level, they won’t have an easy promotion. They are already quite seasoned at F2, but at least Sette Camara is at good age for feeder series. RB’s academy has many guys to prove themselves af F3/F4 currently, and this season of F2 was not the strongest feeder championship ever with many seasoned and paydrivers.
