Alex Zanardi’s condition remains unchanged following his fourth night in intensive care at the Santa Maria alle Scotte hospital in Siena.
There has been no change in the neurological condition of the 53-year-old, who suffered head and facial injuries in a handbike crash on Friday, according to his doctors. His cardio-respiratory and metabolic parameters are stable. The hospital indicated they will consider changing Zanardi’s level of sedation next week.
“The patient spent the fourth night of hospitalisation in the intensive care unit of the Santa Maria alle Scotte polyclinic in Siena in conditions of stability in cardio-respiratory and metabolic parameters,” said the hospital in a statement.
“The neurological picture remains unchanged in its severity. The patient remains sedated, intubated and mechanically ventilated.
“Any reductions in sedo-analgesia, for the assessment of neurological status, will be considered starting next week. The prognosis remains confidential.”

Well, I hope we get some positive news after they wake him up. Would be great if he could get out there and racing again.

I know that the outcomes from brain injuries are impossible to predict but I fear for Alex right now. I dearly hope he can recover, especially after his previous trials, but the longer there’s no good news the prognosis would seem to worsen. Forza Alessandro, siamo con te.

Had the pleasure of knowing Alex (the 3 Amigos…our “loving nickname” amongst Pitlane for the 3 hysterically funny, adorable, handsome AND dedicated to the art of RACING) that hung out together. Alex is also a prankster!!
Oh the advantage of working a drivers Pitbox for the event! Cameras don’t get alot of the reality of what goes on.
He came back after his horrific accident years ago and we were in AWE!!! So determined….!!
He will come back…..he is so loved and admired.
