Williams has revealed its revised livery for the 2020 F1 season following its split from Rokit.
The team has reverted to its ‘heritage’ dark blue colours on the new-look FW43, replacing the red colouring of its former title sponsor. As RaceFans revealed earlier this week, Rokit is believed to be closing on a deal to sponsor Mercedes.
A rendering of the team’s new look was leaked online around half an hour before it was officially presented.

Unfortunately there are. Alpha Tauri, too similar.
The best bit is the rainbow on the rear wing.

For a second there I thought this was a photo of one of their Martini cars. Very nice, albeit a bit plain

I think it would also look good in a negative of this. White areas become dark blue and vice versa.

@danielh Yes, I can see some resemblance.
Jeffrey (@jeffreyj)
26th June 2020, 9:48
Yeah, from a distance on moving footage it probably will. I wished they took the 90’s Rothmans colors (without Rothmans branding obviously) and maybe replace the cold lining on that to a lighter shade of blue.

26th June 2020, 9:28
What’s with the number 40 being there instead of either 63 or 6?
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
26th June 2020, 9:32
It’ll be the reserve driver number. Jack Aitken and Roy Nissany have already been promised practice outings:

https://www.racefans.net/2020/02/04/aitken-to-make-practice-debut-for-williams-in-2020/
Jere (@jerejj)
26th June 2020, 11:17
@keithcollantine Yes, they were, but those were back in January and February before any race had yet to be affected by the epidemic. I have more doubts now about reserve drivers getting FP1 time with a reduced number of races, potential problems with having enough spare parts, etc.
toiago (@toiago)
26th June 2020, 15:38
On the other hand, @jerejj, the money Williams is getting from those outings is probably needed more now than ever after Rokit’s departure. So I’d say it’s pretty certain that Aitken and Nissany are still doing those FP1s.

@jerejj Aitken mentioned in Sky Sports podcast or smth a couple of weeks ago that the team wants to give him a run, preferably as soon as possible incase he needs to replace one of the drivers due Covid 19.

Will someone please spare a thought for Codemasters in these trying times
Jeffrey (@jeffreyj)
26th June 2020, 9:53
No, their game sucks in terms of the driving experience, the way the tracks are modeled (especially curbs) rather than scanned like any other self-respecting race-sim game ánd the embarrassingly subpar online experience.
The only thing they do adequately is getting the liveries right! So… No. Just no.
Rhys Lloyd (@justrhysism)
26th June 2020, 10:43
@jeffreyj And yet, current F1 drivers are claiming F1 2020 is much improved for realism of both the cars and the tracks.
I’ll take their judgement over yours.
Dex
26th June 2020, 12:07
Much improved over what? A game that feels more like pinball than real driving. The game looks almost the same, and I don’t speak of graphics. The game doesn’t (and can’t) simulate tires, brakes, traction, car setups… Little tweaks won’t make it a simulator. And you didn’t hear any driver say it feels realistic, just much improved over the game most of them refused to play even for an event.
Ben
26th June 2020, 10:52
What is the name of the F1 game you made which offered a great driving experience, track modelling and a great online experience? You clearly must have released one, else you would be so pompous about Codemasters efforts, surely?
Jeffrey (@jeffreyj)
26th June 2020, 13:16
Well, ones I play for the pure driving experience are Automobilista, Assetto Corsa, and RFactor. With mods, you can drive every F1 car, from every era you wish. I-Racing has the best online experience but I haven’t played it in a while.
If you play any of these games I mentioned and you try the Codemasters one after, you’ll see what I mean.
GongTong (@gongtong)
26th June 2020, 13:27
What absurd arguments here.
You’re not a Formula 1 driver so you can’t have an opinion.
You aren’t a game developer so you can’t have an opinion.
Codemasters make games. They always have. It’s going to be very hard for them to ever close the gap to the serious releases. I’m sure they’re good fun and look lovely. But that’s all.
Optimaximal (@optimaximal)

And funnily enough, none of the developers of those games can make a game accessible enough to attract the official series license. I wonder why..? 🤔

Really solid, I like it. Especially how they’ve kept the continuity with the front of the car and made the rear similarly elegant as it was with Rokit. Perfect.

I’m confused – did william intitate this breakup or rokit?
Optimaximal (@optimaximal)
27th June 2020, 0:02
Williams broke off the deal according to the public filings. Presumably because the only way they could get more immediate money out of Latiffi was to make him the title sponsor.

26th June 2020, 12:09
I belong to the camp that found the original ROKiT livery distinctly depressing to look at. As @optimaximal wrote when that livery was first revealed, it looked “Very Manor F1 circa their demise”. For me, that comment hit the nail on the head.
This new livery is, in terms of aesthetics, a step forward. Less overtly depressing. Although, the fact that this improvement came about as a result of Williams losing their title sponsor leaves me with very mixed feelings indeed.
Adam (@rocketpanda)
26th June 2020, 12:17
I like it, but there’s a lot of white/black/insert colour this year. Williams, Alfa Romeo, Alpha Tauri and Haas all are exactly the same, just with a dash of dark blue, light blue, dark red or light red. I don’t mind hugely, they look very nice, but maybe a little too much white?
GechiChan (@gechichan)
26th June 2020, 12:21
the most unremarkable and least memorable livery in the padock (also, a bit too close to the better livery Alpha Tauri showed months ago). Unfortunately this says it all for Williams: they really don’t want to be seen this season either.

At least the williams is fresh if it is toothpaste!
I have to be pretty imaginative to get any of these ideas though. I don’t see what the current williams has to do with toothpaste any more than what I mention the other teams could be similar to.

26th June 2020, 14:47
Looks so dull. I never understand why so many F1 teams are so reserved with their cars and many latch onto similar ideas like the thin ribbon that goes from front to back. Way too much white. Why not try something bold, large blocks of bright fun colours.. is it so difficult?
