  1. Gotta be Perez.

He saved the race from being a snore-fest and had pace to burn throughout.

    1. That wouldn’t be fair to Hamilton as he made 1 less mistake ;)
      @sonnycrockett

      1. He also overtook 12 fewer cars! ;)

        1. Sublime pole. Masterful race win. LEWIS HAMILTON all day long and twice on Sundays.

        2. @sonnycrockett
He dint need to as he did that already on Saturday with a margin. Blame Perez for not making it out of Q1. Stroll did.

Its driver of the weekend not day. Go vote on F1 or somewhere else

          1. @lums

That’s very aggressive of you. I was only expressing my opinion!

Checo is actually one of my least favourite drivers. I know a few people who have met him, including a Porsche Cup driver who spends a lot of time amongst F1 drivers, all of whom say he is extremely arrogant. Despite my bias I thought his drive on Sunday was the most entertaining. He was aggressive and did everything he could to overtake which, to me, is what F1 is all about.

@sonnycrockett, good on you to vote for whom you thought did best, and even explained why.

            @sonnycrockett

I can understand why some are going for Perez based on his racecraft and overtakes, but i personally think we should all factor in qualifying for a weekend result. His race was brilliant until he hit albon. If he’d qualified where he should have been capable of, he should have been well up the road from albon given his poor pace. His race admittedly won’t have looked as impressive if he didn’t start far back, but just for a good recovery drive in a strong car, any driver could mess up in qualifying and then have a race that looks impressive. His pace advantage over most of the cars he passed was huge. In the end, by 0.066 seconds, he beat Stroll to the line due to his mistake. We can say it is impressive that he got that far up from where he started (he even was 15+ seconds ahead of Stroll at one point) but to me, I think he ruined his race by being too clumsy with Albon and then losing a place to Norris. It was clear that without his mistake in qualifying and the race, him and his car were capable of getting a better result.

        3. @sonnycrockett blueflagged 13 cars more than Perez though :)

    2. weekend! Has to be Lewis. easier job with such a tremendous car but only fair to award it to someone who could have not done it any better.

    3. DOTD – perez (norris and ricciardo also good shouts)
DOTW – hamilton, by a country mile.

    4. I have to agree with Perez as DOTD. Unfortunately for him, he touched Albon’s car and broke his wing but he did his best and that needs to be applauded. I was intrigued by the lack of pace on the RP on the wet compared to the Mercedes. I guess they don’t have all the parts that team A has. Anyway, Hamilton class of the field but he didnt need to worry about other drivers ahead or behind him

I don’t think they did lack pace. Perez did. It has been visible in the past that Stroll suddenly gets the better of his team mate in wet qualifying sessions. Stroll got through to Q2 and clearly made a mistake rather than lacking pace. IMO, that car was capable of getting through to Q3 quite easily which is why if we judge Perez’s performance over the whole weekend, his race result was effected by this as well as was his clash with albon. I personally think that had he qualified in Q3 where he should have been, he also should have managed to be well ahead of albon as his pace was terrible. In the end, he got beaten by albon and Norris and very nearly Stroll too.

  2. Would love to have voted Lando for pure entertainment value, but a 1.2s delta in quali, then a lights to flag lead means there’s only one who fully deserves DOTW.

      +1

  3. It can only go to the DOMINATOR
from the Black Star region of the Mercedes

    1. Hitler?

  4. Instinctively I went for Perez as his battle through the field was excellent, however – although Hamilton was “boring” – I went for him. His qualifying lap was astounding and he drove perfectly. He saw no action during the race, but only because he performed flawlessly over the weekend when it counted.

  5. Has to be Hamilton really. Blitzed the field in qualifying by 1.2 seconds, then never troubled in the race and didn’t put a wheel wrong. He’s the only driver you can’t fault this weekend (and wasn’t anonymous).

Perez starred in the race up to his collision with Albon, which was his fault, but also couldn’t get going in qualifying. Ricciardo solid race, think he did everything he could up to getting dive bombed by Stroll, but was outperformed in qualifying. Norris had a great race in the end, but also lacked a bit in qualy. Verstappen had good pace, and a nice battle with Bottas, but did drop it in qualifying, even if it ultimately didn’t affect his position.

    1. That seems like quite an apt summation @keithedin, I think Norris did a great race 2nd weekend in a row, but he also got himself a penalty on friday, and couldn’t shine on Saturday, though both McLaren drivers were in the mix, while Perez was nowhere on Saturday, while his teammate showed the car wasn’t too bad. Drivers of the race, but not the weekend. Hamilton certainly blitzed the field on Saturday, and never was in doubt on Sunday (like last weekend Bottas). Verstappen did show that he’s the only one in the top close to Hamilton in rain, but in the race he just couldn’t do much. Hamilton really did show a great comeback after last weekend.

      1. Oh, I did also think Ocon had a very good weekend, as a driver. But, with his car failing halfway through, it’s a bit too much to ask.

  6. 1.2 Seconds in Q in rain, 1st Place in Race

No need to say anything else

    1. now on 1%… but then so is Leclerc who had a poor quali and poor race!

@peartree I guess because Gasly had a great qualifying. Was nibbling at the top 3 in the wet and still started a brilliant 7th. He was looking good in the race (in the points and ahead of Kvyat) but then I don’t know what happened. Made an early stop for hards, which put him behind both Williams and then he stayed near the back for most of the race. I think he had good pace but strategy cost him as his team-mate came home 10th but didn’t look as quick over the weekend.

        1. @invincibleisaac yes but after a good start he got taken by everyone and by the end of the first stint he was just ahead of his team mate. He switched strategy because his race pace was appalling, damage maybe? is pace or strategy certainly made the field avoid the hard tyre.

  7. Though I voted Perez in hindsight I think it has to Hamilton. He never put a foot wrong when it mattered from qualy to the race itself. He exhibited absolute total control of his machinery even in tricky conditions.

  8. Hamilton… amazing quali, dominated the race so much we didn’t really see or hear much of him.

    the only other contenders:
Verstappen – solid 2nd in quali, generally good in the race but maybe changed tires too early which left him more vulnerable to Bottas at the end.
Perez – poor qualifying, good race until touch with Albon at the end.
Norris – poor qualifying, ok race, very good end of race.

I voted for Hamilton. Funny to think he was struggling on Friday and doing a “Dry dance” only to demolish the field with a brilliant pole in the wet, and went on to take an untroubled victory.

Honourable mentions to; Sainz, Perez, Norris and Verstappen. Also impressed with Stroll and Ricciardo.
Carlos qualified very well and started well, but git unlucky with a slow pitstop which brought him out in traffic and he was passed by faster cars. Strategy for him maybe wasn’t great but after a new pitstop he put in a fastest lap (which was quicker than Verstappen who was also on new tyres).

Perez looked great in practice, but was nowhere in the wet qualifying. But from P17 to challenging P4 he had a great race. Was setting fastest laps at one stage, overtook his team-mate, the McLaren’s, and was gaining on a Red Bull. Spoilt it slightly with a failed attempt on Albon that also cost him to Norris, but still a stellar drive.

Norris raced well, but hadn’t had a spectacular weekend up to that point. Picked up a penalty in qualifying and outpaced by Sainz. But from 9th he did well and pulled off some great moves in the final few laps.

Verstappen did very well – 2nd in qualifying and was looking to hold onto that during the race. Easy to think that front wing damage cost him P2 as the gap to Bottas was looking stable. Great defence on the Finn and a podium was good as Mercedes seemed too fast.

I voted for Hamilton because I assumed that the majority had voted for Perez. Perez drove brilliantly yesterday but Lewis’s pole was enough to put him in P1.

Voted Norris. Good qualifying, dropped three places from a penalty from practice and then got absolutely everything out of that car in the race. Good overtakes, good pace. He’s been quite an impressive driver over the past two races.

Perez’s charge from 17th up to nearly 4th was shocking. I’d have expected that from a Mercedes. I don’t think anybody else really was all that impressive this race.

  13. Was hard to decide but i go for Lando Norris but kuddo’s to Perez and Lewis (and Max)

  14. So you’ll skip over the dominant performance of the worlds best Racecar driver in the best car in the field, year after year, instead you want to give that attention to some midfield runner ???

What an insult to Lewis and the Mercedes.

  15. How about a Driver Of The Double Header? Who made the most of the two races at the Red Bull Ring?

  16. I voted for Sainz – excellent qualifying and would have been well ahead of his teammate in the race if Mclaren hadn’t botched his pit stop and dropped him out into slow traffic.

  17. Hamilton (weekend). Anything else is trolling after that qualifying lap.

DoTD: Perez, he put the show in race.

  21. Even as a mercedes hater, has to be hamilton here.

I wanted to vote verstappen, and he was good, maybe could’ve managed tyres a little better to keep bottas behind, though the pit stop was a little too early and that cost him, but in qualifying there was 1.2 sec between hamilton and verstappen, and btw, I really liked the risk verstappen took on the lap he spun, a hero!

But in any case, while mercedes was superior even in the rain, it certainly wasn’t THAT superior, so hamilton still has a little edge on the rain at least on a single lap, I think verstappen is competitive in race pace.

  22. Hamilton for that wet quali lap and just how well he cruised after that.

  23. Perez by far, everyone else just did what was expected.
