Formula 1 has confirmed three people tested positive for Covid-19 during the past week.

The figures cover the period from Friday 2nd October to Thursday 8th October. Therefore they only include one of the two positive cases identified by Mercedes.

Mercedes confirmed its first positive test yesterday. The second, identified today, will fall under F1’s next set of weekly Covid-19 test statistics.

A total of 1,635 tests for Covid-19 were performed during the one-week period. The figure is lower compared to other F1 race weekends because the Formula 2 and Formula 3 support series are not present at the Nurburgring.

The positive cases “have been managed quickly and effectively without impacting the event”, said F1 in a statement. “The presence of fans has not affected that situation as the public was not allowed to enter the F1 bubble as per the protocol in force.”

Following the confirmation of two positive cases at Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas said the team is taking the necessary steps to limit the spread of the infection.

“I feel confident that we are doing everything that there is to do to be in the best shape for this weekend and also try and keep everyone as safe as possible in this situation,” he said. “I definitely have full trust in the rest of the team on that.”
