If CL and MV both drive that merc, they both would have go 1:15 already.

Please bring back 1 lap quali so Hamilton can pay for his dreadful consistency (for once in his life).

There’s a noble and valid reason to change the rules, to disadvantage 1 driver
asherway (@asherway)
24th October 2020, 15:48
Driver error shouldn’t be punished??
sebsronnie (@sebsronnie)
24th October 2020, 16:33
Lol! How do you know that he wouldn’t thrive under those rules? You make it sound like all his poles came from second attempts.
asherway (@asherway)
24th October 2020, 17:08
Good for him if he does. Interesting that all the LEW fans don’t like the idea though, hey?
sebsronnie (@sebsronnie)
24th October 2020, 17:16
I’m not sure how you arrived at that assumption that LEW fans don’t like the idea. Personally, I’m amused by you thinking that changing the rules would change much.

@asherway The main reasons that I don’t like 1 lap qualifying, are because people can just luck into having better track conditions. If I happens to drizzle after the first 2 people have run, how is that fair? Also I like having several driver on track at the same time, being able to respond to what their competitors are doing

@3dom To be fair it’s the exact reason it was introduced in the past.

Hamilton aborted one lap due to traffic. Verstappen binned it in turn 1 and left the track, Ricciardo flew off the track backwards. Seems a lot of other drivers performed with less consistency.
asherway (@asherway)

There should be ramifications for all errors, to better legitimize the Driver’s Title. Lewis so often needs a second bite at the cherry, despite having the fastest and easiest car to drive.

I agree. Bottas should be punished for dipping his wheel in the gravel trap. Banned for the rest of the qualifying session I reckon; don’t you?
asherway (@asherway)

The more chances that are given in quali the more likely they will predictably line up 2 by 2 by 2, reinforcing the advantage baked into their car performance. At a certain point you have to ask: what’s the point running if you don’t let the drivers show their difference?
Jere (@jerejj)
24th October 2020, 15:37
Well, VB has got a small advantage over his teammate who got a small flat spot on his medium set.
slowmo (@slowmo)
24th October 2020, 16:11
@jerejj I doubt they’d notice as it was a tiny lock up but if its bad enough to cause issues they’ll probably swap it out with one of the ones used in his final q3 lap.
Jere (@jerejj)
24th October 2020, 16:27
@slowmo I’m surprised he didn’t use his other medium set (presuming he has one as Mercedes drivers have usually had two sets of the middle compound left for each qualifying) on his second Q2 run to try and get to start with that set.

How does Ham keep doing it? I’m a massive fan but I really didn’t expect him to get that one.
Stroll really getting found out the second half of the season.

Well I think Paddy Lowe summed it up nicely. Also I know Bottas gets alot of flack but in qualy he really isn’t far off Hamilton. Rosberg beat Lewis in qualy in 2014 but I remember Hamilton was struggling with the brakes of the new hybrids- but this season Bottas is right there in qualy at least with all things being equal. What a qualy UFC still to come :).

its cus he got 2 extra laps to warm up his tyres
Jim from US (@jimfromus)
24th October 2020, 17:33
HAM didn’t get 2 extra laps to warm his tyres, he took 2 extra laps to warm his tyres. You make it sound like F1 is allowing HAM extra time out there. All of the drivers could have taken the same 2 extra laps or even more if they chose to. Currently in F1 there is no one better than HAM at understanding the track conditions, weather conditions, and his vehicle’s condition and make the adjustments to get the most from it. It take 100s of little things to make a few thousands of a second difference on a lap.

I dont think Lance’s heart is still in it.
If I had to guess, I would say Lance is growing apart from his dad. Racing is not something he wants to do anymore, on his dad’s terms.

Maybe, but he’s also recovering from an illness that has killed over one million people so far this year.

What a great quali! Hats off to Lewis!!
Tomorrow’s story is likely to be about Max getting ahead of Bottas from the clean side + soft tyres, with Hamilton running off into the distance and Bottas trying to get P2 back.

…which he will get by undercutting. But HAM will be long gone by then.
And that is assuming VER could even get past BOT. The Honda’s don’t seem too good off the line.

Mighty work by Russell. 1 second quicker than Latifi.

Once again Bravo Charles Leclerc, keep that Red Flag flying high and that red car going faster

Charles less than 2 tenths slower than Max?
Wow!

Star of qualifying was leclerc. I think ricciardo will finish 4th in race though.
