Formula 1 has returned to Imola’s picturesque parkland circuit, which hasn’t held a round of the world championship for 14 years, for this weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
The track has had a few changes since Michael Schumacher won the last San Marino Grand Prix in 2006. It was previously overhauled in 1995, the year after the terrible crashes which claimed the lives of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, many tributes to which have been left at the track.

Those house owners certainly getting a nice view of the circuit.

I’ve missed this track more than any other. Great memories of the very first race in Europe after the first flyaway during my childhood, the first race at a normal time, getting up with my dad to watch the teams usually bringing the first updates to the cars… It was often boring, as there were almost no place to overtake, but it’s just such a great, great place…
It’s my go-to track on iRacing to test new cars and new setups… and racing there, at least in the Porsche Cup is huge fun if you can avoid the mayhem.

@fer-no65 Yes great for driving, not so much F1 racing.

Same for me with some of the other PC sims (Mainly Assetto Corsa).
Whenever a DLC new car/pack or unofficial mod comes out I always take it to Imola to get a feel for it before heading off to the Nordschleife.

@fer-no65 you race in the Porsche Cup?

@alfa145 yeah, on the regular, C-class series. Not as much as I’d want, but life gets in between sometimes.

Great to see some pictures, will be better still watching cars back at Imola (even though it was never my favourite track). Track looks nice… apart from that repulsive blue mess at Acque Minerali.

Going anti-clockwise will be nice for a change, but other than that? Since ’94, I always have dark feelings with this circuit. It never was a favourite of mine and certainly since then, it never will be.
Speaking of which: I have a distinct feeling the artist that made the statue mixed up Ayrton Senna with Michael Jackson. To me, there’s zero likeness. Had it been just anybody’s statue, that would have been fine, but Ayrton’s?

Beautiful circuit. Wish it had never left the calendar.
Interlagos is the latest casualty, so frustrating.

Gonna be awesome seeing the F1 machines crush the lap record. Expecting the racing to be processional, though.

I predict 279488276 times banned due to “track limits” at aqua minerali.
And why have they to wide the inside kerbs? I’m probably wrong, but I think the kerbs on the inside in the Tamburello and the next chicane, were only that portion now painted with the italian flag. The rest is new. Why? F1 drivers have no precision to hit a narrower inside kerb?

They have been like that for years, it’s not a modification specifically made for F1

OK, my fault then.
