Russell to get grid penalty for power unit change

George Russell is set to take a grid penalty for this weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix after Williams fitted a fourth power unit to his car.

Russell’s team had to fit a new power unit to his car at the second race of the season following a failure during the first race at the Red Bull Ring.

The Williams driver will therefore start this weekend’s race from the back of the grid, unless other drivers also receive penalties.

Sergio Perez, who like Russell also uses Mercedes power, has had a third MGU-K fitted to his car this weekend. The Racing Point driver will not incur a penalty.

    1. Not an entire PU, only ICE, TC, and MGU-H. He’s still within the allocation elsewhere. He’s going to stat last anyway.

      1. He has been getting out of Q1, so no he wouldn’t be starting last anyway!

        1. I meant whether it’s all elements or only some.

    2. He will still start ahead of Latifi

    3. Am I mistaken or is this the first grid penalty in 2020 for exceeding the PU components?
And if that’s the case, curious that it happens with a Mercedes PU and not a Honda or Renault (if I’m not mistaken Ferrari gotten pretty reliable in previous years already)…
