Pirelli’s head of Formula 1 and car racing Mario Isola has tested positive for Covid-19.

The positive test was confirmed by the FIA, Formula 1 and the sport’s official tyre manufacturer.

“The FIA, Formula 1 and Pirelli can confirm that Pirelli head of F1 and car eacing Mario Isola has tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday 15 November at the Turkish Grand Prix,” said a joint statement.

“Mario returned a positive result during the regular Sunday Covid testing schedule. He is now isolating, and is asymptomatic and will adhere to the local medical guidelines. All close contacts have been declared, re-tested, and no further positive cases have been returned.”

Formula 1 has conducted over 60,000 tests for Covid-19 since the season began in July. As Isola tested positive on Sunday, he will not be among the 70 positive cases identified so far, as the latest data was compiled on Friday.

Other F1 figures who have returned positive tests during the year include Williams acting team principal Simon Roberts, who missed last weekend’s race as a result, and Racing Point drivers Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll.

  1. The guy had been moonlighting as an Ambulance driver in Italy, doing what he could to help out. So as Hamilton already pointed out, he deserves to be honoured.

Stay well, get healthy again and thank you Mr. Isola.

Likely he is isolated now. Hope he keeps safe and get well-

  3. Wish him well.

Hope we can get more of the new lateral flow test that’s rolled out in Liverpool. Results are markedly different to the pcr.

Very interesting and logical take by Dr Mike Yeadon on the new test https://youtu.be/DZjtiqujql8

  4. Also please pay attention to the terms used. Lots of people getting it wrong. Coronavirus is the actual microbe, COVID-19 is the disease I.e. they symptoms caused by the virus. You cannot test positive for COVID-19. You test positive for the coronavirus, SARS Cov-2, the actual viral particles or fragment, or RNA, or in the case of the new lateral flow test, viral protein.
