Romain Grosjean has revealed the helmet he intended to wear at his final Formula 1 race in Abu Dhabi this weekend, which he will miss due to the injuries he suffered in his Bahrain Grand Prix crash.
Other drivers who will be on the grid this weekend have revealed special designs for the final round of the year.
Romain Grosjean’s unraced 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix helmet
Grosjean has unveiled the helmet which was created for what would have been his final race in Formula 1, prior to his crash and injuries at the Bahrain Grand Prix.Designed by his children, Sacha, Simon and Camille, it features their drawings of the Grosjean family, their pets, outlines of their hands and Grosjean in his race car.
It is destined to remain unused for the time being as Grosjean will not race at Yas Marina while he continues to recover from the burns he suffered to his hands. But he hopes to use it on a race track soon, describing it as “too beautiful to stay at home unused”.
George Russell’s 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix helmet
After switching to a Schumacher-referencing red and turquoise design for his guest spot at Mercedes last weekend, George Russell’s return to Williams will be marked by a new, dark, all-blue helmet for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Russell, who has previously run a red-white-and-blue helmet at Williams this year, has opted for a deep blue, matte version of his design for the final race of 2020.
Russell dedicated his helmet to Sir Frank and Claire Williams, the former owners of the team. “Thank you for all you’ve done for me, the team and the sport,” he wrote on social media. “Hope you like it.”

Daniil Kvyat’s 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix helmet
With Yuki Tsunoda expected to take his place at AlphaTauri next year, Daniil Kvyat may start his final F1 race this weekend.
He has updated his 2020 helmet design to be more reflective under the Abu Dhabi lights. The final race of the year starts in sunlight but will head into dusk.
The spotlights will illuminate Kvyat’s new glittered red panels, which replace the matte paint that he has used in the design all year.
Sebastian Vettel’s 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix helmet
Sebastian Vettel will end his six-year stint at Ferrari this weekend and is marking it with another variation of his white base helmet. Finished in reflected chrome to stand out under the night lights, it features the Ferrari Cavallino Rampante on its left side and Vettel’s number five opposite.
Charles Leclerc’s 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix helmet
Charles Leclerc is paying tribute to his outgoing team mate with a helmet that matches Vettel’s design. Leclerc’s helmet is white with the twin stripes of the Monaco flag cutting across it, and the motto “Danke Seb” on top.
Valtteri Bottas’s 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix helmet
Grosjean isn’t the only driver who’s had a helmet created by those close to him. Valtteri Bottas’s partner Tiffany Cromwell created this rich blue design for his final race of 2020.
Carlos Sainz Jnr’s 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix helmet
Carlos Sainz Jnr is saying farewell to McLaren this weekend so he’s added a picture of him and team mate Lando Norris and his crew to the back of his design.
Sergio Perez’s 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix helmet
In what could be has final Formula 1 race, last weekend’s winner Sergio Perez is sporting a helmet which lists notable statistics from his 10-year spell in the sport.
Lewis Hamilton’s 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix helmet
Finally, the seven-times champion has updated his helmet with a seventh star and gold detailing. Hamilton’s overalls also feature a nod to his record-equalling seventh title: His name is now spelled ‘Hamil7on’.

Yep, has had a Schumacher-inspired helmet design since he was in junior series and describes Michael as his hero.

Yeah, a few of the younger crop hail Schumacher as their hero rather than the likes of Senna. In addition to Russel, Ocon is another who says Schumacher is his hero, he even used to race in karting in red overalls and a slightly modified version of his helmet design.

Say what you want about Grosjean’s driving skills, I almost had tears in my eyes when I saw his helmet. What a man!
And if it is a marketing gimmick, then it is a very good one. I like the message, the world needs as many happy families as possible.

Yes, very cute, if I were him, I would keep it at home, at some nice place :)
Similarly I liked Lando’s funny helmet with the design from the drawing contest for kids, or the ones which Norris and Sainz had painted for themselves.
Or google : “Lando’s leaked Bahrain helmet design”, lol ahahah, this would be cool.

“I, for one, am glad that there’s the potential for more laddish / playboy-like behavior in F1! It’s been beyond pathetic to see drivers bringing their parents or siblings to GP weekends instead of super-hot supermodels or pop stars. Mazepin is a breath of fresh air.”

Being in an F1 team must be a strange working environment in a sense, I can’t think of many others where the whole focus shifts onto another individual as it does when an F1 team replaces a driver. If Grosjean’s side of the garage gets allocated Mazepin, after 6 years of someone who seems like a personable / food / family kind of guy. (prone to a radio whinge or two). Nikita seems very different.
When you’re a group of people tasked with bringing out the very best in an individual, it must be quite a change.

We’ve seen a very human side fo F1 since Grosjean’s crash and Perez’s victory. It’s refreshing.

Very cool stuff I’ve sent Romans helmet pics to my Grand daughters. It’ll also be seen by their mother too. They will all dig it. The other helmets also are very nice. Sebs being a nice end to the off center rolling forward area of stripes shading colors all with intention of celebration or acknowledgement of merit but it that many recent helmets were sort of a theme definitely original to Vettle. But with this topic in mind google or choose your tech and look up Helmet design from the early 1960s Then look the very first markings to begin to show up with early livery or sponsorship or national theme etc. it’ll blow you away. Worth it for a laugh. Then think about Lewis’ Helmet my god there is truly a lineage in Formula One Helmets. Leather skullcap with a scarf and a pack of smokes in the front shirt pocket. Look at the Helmet those men from that time. It’s all cool and this is a great- nicely different and refreshing story about the greatest sport around the world and is known by Billions of people.
