Sir Jackie Stewart is recovering in hospital following a planned knee replacement operation earlier this month.

The three-times Formula 1 world champion, who raced in the series between 1965 and 1973, expects to make a full recovery from his surgery.

Stewart remains involved with some of the championship’s most prominent sponsors including Rolex. He intends to return to work ahead of the 2021 F1 season, which is due to begin in Melbourne next March.

The 81-year-old participated in yesterday’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award ceremony from his hospital bed. The award was won by Lewis Hamilton.

In 2016 Stewart revealed his wife, Lady Helen, had been diagnosed with dementia. He subsequently founded Race Against Dementia, a charity to fund research into preventing and curing the syndrome.

    1. I guess this year him being hospitalized “only” for a knee surgery is a positive. Good recovery Mr. Stewart

      1. It’s major surgery for an 81 year old man.
Nobody wants a knee replacement but those who do, like me, know the challenge surgery presents. The nerve damage and it’s regenerative ability takes months if not years to feel normal. I scratch the inside of my knee and feel it on the outside. But in the end the relief following recovery and therapy is well worth it. Few humans have the ability to deal with bone on bone pain.
So I’m not trying to stir you up BasCB as the surgery is still a lot to go through and being older raises unexpected issues

    2. Wishing you a speedy recovery JYS…

    3. Hope everything went well and the recovery is without issue and as speedy as possible, wishing him a good recovery.

    4. Get well soon Sir Jackie.

    5. At least the WHO didn’t say it was caused by COVID. I’m sure he has the best after-knee surgery support you can get. Unlike myself. Get well soon Sir Jackie.
