Alfa Romeo has presented the new C41 chassis which it will campaign in the 2021 F1 season.

The Sauber-run outfit, which has competed as Alfa Romeo since 2019, held a launch event in Warsaw. The Polish capital is home to the team’s title sponsor, petrochemicals firm Orlen.

The team finished eighth in the constructors championship for the third year in a row last season. However its points total slumped from 57 to just eight as the team endured a difficult season with an uncompetitive Ferrari power unit. The Scuderia has produced a revised motor for 2021 which both its customer teams will also use.

Improvements are needed from the team in every area, according to principal Frederic Vasseur. “The philosophy upon which the team is based remains the same,” he said, “we have to do a better job tomorrow than we are doing today.

“We finished last season in eighth, so we have to target a better result in 2021. To do so, we have to keep improving in each department, trackside and back at headquarters.”

Along with Mercedes, Alfa Romeo is one of only two teams in the field with an unchanged driver line-up. Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi remain in their cars for the third year in a row.

The team has made a departure with the naming convention for its new car. While its predecessor was called the C39, the new car has been named the C41 in order to align with the year 2021.

Its chassis designation is derived from the initial letter of team founder Peter Sauber’s wife, Christine. The team does not currently plan to use the designation C40, as was also the case with the unused name C10.

  1. I guess that beautiful electric red was more expensive this year.

  2. Quite cool-looking.

  3. The livery design looks a mess the back and front don’t get mesh together, a simple red line coming from under the alfa Romeo badge and running down to a point on the side of the nose would have transformed the look into something quite stylish and /or link in the red halo which currently looks like it’s just ohh let’s do it red but not tie it in with the rest of the livery

oh well guess as the above post was the red more expensive

    1. I think the red they used this year is more the red PKN Orlen uses in its logo @jeff1s, @mpt2201

  4. Best one yet.

  5. The only thing that i didn’t like in the Alfa Romeo liveries in the past couple of years was the Orlen logo on the side of the sidepods. It kinda cluttered the space for me, the new livery fixes that issue without losing anything that made the previous livery good. The green four leaf clover is an excellent touch, i’m a very big fan of it

  6. A very busy livery

  7. I think it’s much better that the design used in the previous years, I felt the red part was just put on top of the white without much elegance. I think this one transitions really well, I like the color distribution this way, the Alfa logo is more present, and adding the Quadrifoglio is a nice touch.
(looks like the opinions are split on this one as well, like the AlphaTauri livery)

  8. The nose stripes are unnecessary but 3/4 view looks even better than last year. Hope it’s moderately fast.

  9. The livery is nice but the incorporation of the logo and the white background does make me think they took a lot of inspiration from the AlphaTauri design. Got to say I quite like the nose design though.

  10. Really like the evolution of the Alfa Romeo livery and I think this iteration is the most refined yet. It looks best from above, as seen in their launch video.

  11. You would get a lot more clicks out of me with a better image gallery tool. You know, where clicking on the first image actually takes you to the beginning.

    1. @pastaman The lack of any investment whatsoever in this website is utterly infuriating. It’s like it’s frozen in time from 15 years ago.

Especially when so many of the issues are problems solved six-ways-from-Sunday. There are dozens of plugins which can improve the UX… but unfortunately @keithcollantine doesn’t seem particularly interested in the experience of his visitors.

  12. Might be one of the better looking cars in a while

From some angles, it looks a bit busy but then from others, it looks great. I really like the white that runs along the rear of the car and goes above the sidepod.

I thought I liked last year’s livery but on track, it looked really dull. I think this is the opposite in that it’ll look better on track than it does in these pictures.

  14. Car looks good, nice colour scheme. Then you spot the three drivers and remember that two of them are extra baggage: the second and the third in the main picture.

  15. The new nose and livery look great, I don’t know what people are complaining about.

  16. Haircut for Antonio!

Maybe he will find a performance advantage with the weight loss.
