  1. I reckon Lewis will slowly start running away towards a record-breaking 8th WDC.

Wow, that was a nail biter. . .Kudos to Team Merc AMG AMG AMG AMG Petronas F1 Team!!!! Team called the Brilliant Strategy in response to RB and current conditions, SLH44 Did a brilliant Job that completed the Race for the win. . .Incredible

  3. Championship’s over. Looking forward to the copium overdoses – “Noooo, Max totally still has a chance” – in the upcoming weeks.

    1. Yes, it is over. On pure math, it will probably be open for long (maybe october), if one considers the potential 26 pts a winner could get. But that is not the correct calculation
Either HAM dont finish or he will be at worst 2nd or 3rd in every race.
The rest of the season will be VER/HAM exchange 7pts (25-18) every race.
If BOT is not 1st or 2nd he will get the fastest lap point, to prevent VER to getting it.
Even a DNF for HAM can be recovered in 3-4 races even if VER is 2nd in all of them.
So, either MERC got 2-3 DNF with HAM or RB finds another gear. Anything other than that not only means that the championship is over but that MERC cant give a early vacation for everybody.

      1. Thank you both for such a scientific approach!
I will cancel my visit to a fortune teller!

        *facepalm*

Long way to go hey, this is now a full swing development race. . .I think He was leading the championship by race 5 in 2007. . .look how that turned out

  5. Bottas still clearly lost a lot from his DNF/terrible race at Imola, but would be clearly behind even so, since he hasn’t been able to really fight for wins, while it remains interesting to see whether/when Perez can clear Norris and Leclerc.

So, looking behind the top two teams, it’s pretty close, with a tight battle between McLaren/Norris and Ferrari/Leclerc for the top of the midfield; Alpine really had weak race pace here (or was Portugal a bit of a false dawn?), while AM still aren’t where they’d want to be, and AT continue to do less than they seem to have been capable of (but, Tsunoda is a rookie, so his struggles in the last few races might be expected?). Oh, and Ocon remains a bit ahead of Alonso, but it’s hard work.

  6. Last year Lewis won all 4 GPs we’ve had so far this season and he had 2 flaps, so 102 points total. Max only got 52 points but he did have the puncture in Imola running 2nd.

Now there’s only 14 points between them, so hopefully the next two GPs on street circuits favor Max so it stays exciting a little longer

  7. The championship is over for 2 reasons:

    1. Hamilton has started strongly and previous performance has shown that he only gets better as the season goes on.
    2. Red Bull were slower than Mercedes at Barcelona, which is the benchmark circuit for setting the pace pecking order.
