4 points is nothing.
Great season, great racing. We’ll see what the situation is in the end

Hamilton was great this race.

Yes he managed to finish at the same place he started, despite two people retiring before him

@paeschli Technically yes, but considering he was into 6th by T1 because of Leclerc’s retirement, he actually lost a place

23rd May 2021, 17:24
And Bottas. There were almost no overtakes after the first few turns but Hamilton was on the receiving side of two of them
Agree, easily the worst driver in the grid today

@randommallard I think @paeschli was being ironic there.

Bottas keeps getting screwed by team.

+1. There must be a clause in his contract he can’t win if Sir needs some extra points.

Honestly, since drivers have different pit crews, and you see how much more rarely hamilton has those issues, I think bottas has been given the incompetent pit crew.

No overtakes.
No safety car.
No yellow flags.
No fun!

Schumi overtook Mazespin, so there was one overtake.
Chaitanya
23rd May 2021, 17:44
And then later on Schumacher did a Mazespin to finish deadlast.
spoutnik (@spoutnik)
24th May 2021, 0:53
Didn’t see that spin, but he was already last, plagued with severe oil pump problems, making accelerations completely random and probably not helping. He was asked to let Mazepin get in front, to be fair.

As Lewis predicted – a ‘train’ throughout – boring and pointless! MonCo is a ‘time trial’ and not a race….
Adam (@rocketpanda)
23rd May 2021, 16:02
The race wasn’t hugely exciting, got to admit. But I’m loving that Red Bull are leading the constructors and Verstappen’s got the lead of the driver’s championship.
Rockgod (@rockgod)
23rd May 2021, 17:32
@rocketpanda I remember you commenting that Spain was boring and this one is exciting? So for you and many others like you results determine the excitement of the race.
Adam (@rocketpanda)
23rd May 2021, 17:45
I literally just said the race wasn’t hugely exciting, lol. Which it wasn’t, very little actually happened.
I think if you’re watching a sport that has teams and you support those teams or players/drivers involved when you see those you support do well it obviously is going to increase your enjoyment of the media, just as much when they do poorly and a team/player/driver you dislike does well, it can negatively impact your enjoyment of the media. I feel this is quite obvious? It would be nice to sit here and be utterly indifferent either way but then if you don’t care who wins, who loses and who’s successful or unsuccessful why bother having a competition at all?
Like the race was dull as a fan of racing, but the outcome was favourable from a personal fan perspective. So a 50-50 kinda thing for me.
Rockgod (@rockgod)
23rd May 2021, 22:16
Understandable. But many people call for banning certain tracks just because the result doesn’t match what they expected if their fave driver.

Any race where it is nearly impossible to overtake should be seriously looked into.
After all what is the point of a race where you cannot overtake. Monaco has been the same for many years and it was bad 15 years ago. I am really not sure why I should bother watching it.
Either they make some serious changes to the circuit or they just anounce the winners at the start of the race.
as far as i recall and ignoring overtaking in the pits and the first corner there were ZERO overtakes. This is NOT acceptable. there is NO POINT to a race where drivers cannot overtake on the circuit!

23rd May 2021, 17:49
Most of us are tired of seeing Mercs being the fastest car, it was same when Redbull was pre hybrid era. Ofcourse good racing trumps everything, just wish F1 had more competitive teams to make it more exciting at the top.

Good, the championship seems to be heading into a tight battle, both for WDC + WCC
Omar R (@)
23rd May 2021, 18:06
@miltosgreekfan as a Verstappen fan, I honestly hope they can do better than what Ferrari did in both 2017 / 2018. So far the championship is alive because neither Verstappen nor Hamilton have retired. I hope none will, or we might miss a really entertaining season.
Miltiadis (@miltosgreekfan)
25th May 2021, 6:08
@omarr-pepper Eventually some of the guys will suffer from mechanical issues/incidents that will make then retire from one race, but i hope that it doesn’t affect the championship in the end. It’s gonna be a 2 way fight as it seems, Bottas lost any chance of getting closer to Hamilton in Monaco and I can’t see him recovering from it…
bosyber (@bosyber)
23rd May 2021, 16:04
Well, RBR/Merc, McL/FER, Alpine/AT/AM battles at least close, as is the fight for third, and obviously fight for WDC with Verstappen now having gained a slight lead. The race wasn’t on my list of best of the season(s), but it did nicely shuffle things up in the points.

Not the most exciting, but possibly the most important race in the season.
It could be the turning point.

23rd May 2021, 16:12
Wow Mercedes and Hamilton pooped the bed this weekend. Verstappen was there to maximize the result. With a little luck as well with leclerc.
Oxnard (@montalvo)
23rd May 2021, 16:37
I wouldn’t really call it luck. If Leclerc wouldn’t have crashed, Bottas and Verstappen would have (most likely) driven a faster lap. It was a bit unlucky he couldn’t start at all, but that pole was a bit undeserved in the first place. Without the crash I think it would have been Verstappen on pole, Bottas 2nd and Leclerc 3rd.
Bottas not finishing on a (silly) technical issue helped Hamilton to gain 2 more points. Plus I feel it was a mistake by Red Bull not pitting Perez for the fastest lap. Perez showed he had the confidence in the softs earlier in the race.
Esploratore (@esploratore)
24th May 2021, 4:18
I find it odd you don’t mention sainz, I think sainz had more chance than bottas to get past leclerc’s time, bottas imo was only able to improve and get past the previous time sainz and verstappen set, not the 2nd if they had lapped at leclerc level.
David BR (@david-br)
23rd May 2021, 16:15
If he becomes a multiple world champion as expected, even if doesn’t win this season, I expect this is where the Max Verstappen era officially begins. Winning Monaco and leading the championship for the first time, well deserved.

i thinks hes got the record for youngest to lead the world championship as well. just the start of his career.
hunocsi (@hunocsi)
23rd May 2021, 16:24
@f1fan-2000 He’s definitely not, he’s already 23, Vettel was WDC by 22 (Hamilton won at 23, Verstappen will be 24 at the end of this season).
f12007v (@f1fan-2000)
23rd May 2021, 16:28
oh ok max is older than i thought
Omar R (@)
23rd May 2021, 18:13
@hunocsi There is a stat, however, that gives me hope. By this exact age Max is, Hamilton had 8 wins, and Max already has 4 more. So he could become champion this season, and also eventually break, in many years, Lewis most wins record, of course depending on how much Lewis can increase on his current 98-win record.
What comes next is lots of ifs and buts, but here we go. Let’s say this year season each one of them (MV and LH) win 8 more races (while someone else wins the remaining ones). That would put Max in 20 wins. Level with Mika Hakkinen and already 16th best in the most-wins historical ranking. For someone at 24 years old at the end of this year, it seems not only possible, what a great achievement.
And thinking this year both MV and LH can win so many races each is not far-fetched. It’s what we have seen so far.

Impressive managed win.
Mercedes lost it, strategy and pitteam. Lewis just cruised at the back, almost lapped.
Good to see the game is on.

How many seasons have finished like that? Maybe something to investigate while the Abu Dhabi GP is on.
Omar R (@)

@bullfrog only 1st to 5th are in alphabetical order. If AlpIne and alpHa Tauri were switched, it would be in alphabetical order for the first 8 teams.

24th May 2021, 0:59
why didn’t RedBull pit Perez 3 laps to the end to get fastest lap from Hamilton? he would never overtake Norris and had massive gap to Vettel
