  1. That rain helped Mercs salvage massive points over RBR.

    1. Lol you got to be kidding me

    2. and gift Versappen 2nd, I’d say RB won here on NET

    3. I think you meant the opposite

      1. Right before rains started Perez was in P3 and Max in P6 with Bottas out of points altogether and Lewis in P2 and post rains Bottas got upto P5 with Hamilton taking P1 compared to P2 and P9 for RBR.

    4. Whaaaaaattttt?

      1. Post rains P1 and P5 for Mercs vs P2 and no points from Bottas before rains as opposed to P2 and P9 post rains for RBR vs P3 and P6 or P7(for max) before rains.

        1. You must be drunk. VER lucked in.

          1. He’s talking about Merc and RBR, not VER… jeez can’t you people read. Got it immediately

  2. After seeing the positions on around lap 50, it’s hard to believe that this is the race where Bottas finally overtakes Norris for third in the WDC.

    1. Actually scrap that, I guess he must have already been ahead.

  3. Both Hamilton and Verstappen had great races. Red Bull will be justifiably happy, but Mercedes/Hamilton made the right call not to switch engines this race. Clearing 100 race wins, and taking the points and the championship lead, is a big morale boost and relief, surely. I’m sure Norris will finish this season third for various reasons and deservedly.

  4. Finally some luck for max, great race

  5. With Max raking his engine change for this race, he should be in the clear for Turkey correct?

    1. Yes. No more penalties, no more engine changes projected. This score must feel like a win. Red Bull knew Hamilton would live this race at the top of the championship again, so Verstappen 20th to 2nd is the best possible way to serve a penalty and an engine change that came from that Hungary bowling streak by Bottas.

@omarr-pepper Yeah I think RB and Max have to be very happy with this result. Disregarding the engine penalty, they took P2 on a track where Merc have generally been very strong. And to do that from the back of the grid as well, thus taking that new PU, is hugely important for his season.

Just a slight correction: Verstappen needed a new PU as a result of the crash at Silverstone; Perez needed one (which he took at Zandvoort) after the crash at Hungary.

  6. We can say for sure max will be champion now with 1 race to spare

  7. Hamilton got the lead back, but anything things can swing in either direction.

  8. Hamilton has only won 2 of 11 since Spain. It’s kind of crazy he’s leading the table even with silverstone. It’s hard to see how they hold back RBR for so many more races to come.

    1. @dmw Pirelli have switched to higher pressure/harder tyres because (ironically) of the Verstappen blow out at Baku, which seems to have given Mercedes a boost for the rest of the season since it stabilizes their trickier car rear end. Maybe that puts the teams back to level after Red Bull were ahead for a while (with Honda’s engine coming on full power). So I think it’s still evenly matched, but more of the tracks ahead favour Red Bull.

    2. And both those Hamilton wins came after something adverse happened to Verstappen, namely being taken out by Hamilton whilst leading in Silverstone and after Verstappen started from the back of the grid this weekend. I know Hamilton can produce some excellent results when he needs to but I think Verstappen is driving too well. If luck remains equal from now on then Verstappen should be WCD.
