Lewis Hamilton was fastest in first practice and the only driver, on early qualifying simulations, to dip under a 1’24 lap time during second practice.
Ferrari seem to have found some serious pace around Istanbul, both drivers in the top five on Friday morning and Charles Leclerc second-fastest in the afternoon. Mercedes seemed to have an edge over Red Bull, Max Verstappen unable to match Hamilton’s times.

Easy 1-2 for Merc. Even if starting from the back. One lap pace and long stint pace is second to none.

For ‘pole’, is it fastest qualifier? Or driver who starts in first place on sunday? ie. If hamilton is fastest in Q3, but gets a 10 place penalty, is he considered ‘pole’ for this competition?

I assume it is the official pole winner. So if Ham gets it he should be the correct pick even with the penalty being applied on Sunday.

It’s pole position not fastest qualifier as far as I know.

Pole wouldn’t be Hamilton in that case
