It’s finally time for the start of a bold new era of Formula 1 as the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix takes place this weekend.

Once again, Sky Sports F1 holds exclusive rights to broadcast live coverage of Formula 1 in 2022, with Channel 4 again showing highlights of all 22 races confirmed for the calendar so far. Channel 4 will again show the British Grand Prix live this summer.

In the United States, ESPN will remain the exclusive home of the sport on television, with coverage of sessions split between ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNEWS or ESPNU.

As the race in Bahrain will again take place under floodlights in the evening, the race will begin at the usual time of 3pm UK time – the same start time that the majority of European races will begin this year.

This weekend also marks the start of both the Formula 3 and Formula 2 championships, with revised race weekend formats for both series seeing the return of the double-header system, with sprint races held on Saturdays and feature races on Sundays. Sunday will also see the second round of the IndyCar Series at Texas Motor Speedway – the first oval round of the championship.

  1. It’s annoying that the revised weekend timetable seems to have ended up with the support race practice sessions clashing with the media stuff/drivers press conference which now takes place on Friday morning resulting in Sky not showing them live.

I never bother watching the driver/team press conferences so would much rather be able to watch the live track action.

Given how Sky have the tv red button which they use to show various different feeds over the weekend as well as the various online platforms surely they could find a way to show both, Preferably with the live track action on the F1 channel & the press conference shown online, on the app or on one of the red button feeds.

  2. I’m used to F1 and IndyCar clashing in terms of weekends, but not usually the actual on track race action. Bit odd that.

    1. @eurobrun Races won’t directly clash, as the Bahrain GP will have ended by the scheduled Texas 375 start time.

      1. Oh. I took session start time to be literal. Ie: Texas starts 90 mins after Bahrain.
I guess the Indy start time listed is the broadcast start then?

  3. How do Channel 4 manage to squeeze a 90-minute Grand Prix into a two-and-a-half-hour “highlights” show?! I’m already dreading the endless turgid slow-motion matey fake banter woke build-up and wish they’d just get on with it, like the MotoGP highlights on ITV.

    1. Well said. And please, please drop Coulthard. He’s painfully boring and full of cr@p. There simply must be a better option.
Nice enough guy but awkward and unsuitable in this role with zero charisma.

He is the deputy presenter for Channel 4 F1. He will not be leaving. I don’t have any issues with him myself luckily.

@thegianthogweed He also part owns the production company (Whisper) if I remember correctly. So yeah I doubt he’ll be leaving soon.

Although like you I don’t particularly have anything against him.

      2. Coulthard owns Whisper along with Jake Humphrey and Sunil Patel. One of the UKs most successful independent sports companies.

  4. Ok last year I think you got the US times wrong due to the daylight savings time change.
This year did you take into account daylight savings time for US?

    1. Ok looks like the US east coast time is correct. Good job.

  5. Nothing different from previous 2014-onwards (bar 2020) timings. FP1 is the only session with any difference.

  6. Isn’t Texas IndyCar starting at 17:30 GMT?

  7. And this is only part of the calendar this week, as WEC & IMSA race Sebring starting 16th, and Aussie S5000 tackle Phillip Island 18th onward

  8. I want my F1 tv

Does F1 tv pro work with a VPN? It’s shameful I need a Sky subscription to see it in my country

Apparently you can get it to work but you have to use a mobile phone with a vpn to sign up – this hides your credit card details so they can’t tell it’s a uk card. I haven’t tried it but a friend did and said it worked fine. It’s obviously a risk as you could pay for something that doesn’t work…. I figure if I have to do something illegal, I may as well take a free option. I’ll pay once I can do it legally.
