Interesting strategy for Albon, but Leclerc is definitely DOTD.

So unexpected are some of these results. Amazing for Williams and Albon. Amazing for Russell. Amazing for McLaren considering their start. Red Bull looking fast but vulnerable. Ferrari, with Leclerc just absolutely dominating. Never looked under pressure.

Costly retirements from RedBull, they had easy P2 for Verstappen, but he probably pushed the car to much, trying to chase LeClerc.
It makes this season very interesting, RedBull are faster, Ferrari are better and Mercedes. Are not to far off.
MG1982 (@mg1982)
10th April 2022, 7:46
What are you talking about?? Those SC periods saved the day for the rest. Yeah, on the straights at least, Ferrari looked significantly worse than RBR and Mercedes because of the porpoising, they lacked in the top speed department too, yet LEC seemed to distance himself from VER kinda easily every time the race resumed. PER finished 20sec behind! Should have been 40sec. It was a surprise, but Ferrari had the edge this GP in Quali and Race too.
bosyber (@bosyber)
10th April 2022, 7:52
Yeah, Leclerc showed a lot more pace; only threatened on the (re) starts, maybe struggling heating the tyres, but apart from that he was just faster over most of it I agree @mg1982; possibly didn’t help Red Bull that Verstappen didn’t quite seem to get the car where he wanted it, esp. that last turn was a bugbear for him. There probably will be races where Red Bull is faster, but right now things look very good for Lecler and Ferrari.
His post race interview where he said ‘first time we have been able to control the pace’ illustrates how he probably had pace in hand (and think of what that means for how much Sainz threw away by being impatient in the early phase of the race then too).
Illusive (@illusive)

Dude even if you say Max was pushing in his RedBull, Charles was pulling away. RedBull looked more closer to Mercs today. Ferrari was too quick today. Charles did a good job, he said he was loooking after the tyres and was stil extending his lead.

Imagine watching that race and saying ‘Red Bull are faster’ with a straight face.

Hehehehe – where have you been? Such comments are standard fare here. Wait for that poster (or others) to come and tell you the Red Bull is much faster but Leclerc is a much better driver.
Esploratore (@esploratore1)
12th April 2022, 11:10
While I thought the same at first, I’d give him the benefit of the doubt if he means in terms of straight line speed, seems to be the best car to overtake, but obviously ferrari better over the whole lap.

Excellent result for Williams F1. Are Aston Martin establishing themselves as F1 newest backmarkers ? I don’t think Lance would have a top 15 finish if not for the safety cars.Terrible weekend for Sebastian.
And even with three drs zones, overtaking was challenging. Still way better than some of the earlier Aus GPs we’ve had.

Didn’t help that stroll drove like trash the entire weekend. Needleslly crashed in quali, got a penalty for swerving and should have had a second for driving others of the track. Their strategy was intresting and Williams showed the potential of such long runs – but it’s wasted on a driver like that

What did I say yesterday? Alonso was either parking the car or finishing behind Ocon.
Seems like Ocon is going to destroy Alonso this year. 20 points vs 2.
To sum up, there’s no need for the Spaniard anymore. This is just painful to watch. Alonso was lacklustre, pace-less, no ability to overtake, no speed on new tyres, nothing. Put Piastri in that car.
Sviat
10th April 2022, 8:37
To whom it may concern:
– Ocon finished ahead of Alonso.
– Ocon lost 61 seconds to the first place. And that’s with two safety cars and virtual safety cars.
– Hence Alonso’s claim “we could fight for third” was a bit of a stretch. Alpine is about 2 seconds per lap slower on both mediums and hards, and at least six cars are much faster.
– Alonso was losing position after position with some mysterious (probably, nonexistent) issue in the late stages of the race. The car seemed fine, though.
– Alonso tried to set the fastest lap on his new mediums and failed to do so.
Those are facts. I understand that for some people it is hard to accept reality, but you should move on, not leave comments with direct insults thinking you’re the only one with the right opinion.
PS: I am baffled how sometimes comments without insults are deleted for no obvious reason, but comments with insults are not. This is why I will never be a subscriber, Keith.

Looks like my comment might have got blocked/not approved, such was my aggression, but this is utter nonsense and you have absolutely no clue. Hopefully my insulting comment is what got blocked, because I meant to be insulting and you deserve it.
You’re patently, preposterously, demonstrably wrong, and everybody knows it. It is not a matter of opinion. You’re being so denying of reality and so obsessive with your vendetta that evidence suggests (without knowing more) that you’re probably a terrible human being. It makes me terrified to think what kind of nonsense that actually matters, in life and death concerns when it comes to things like political ideologies, you must also blindly subscribe to.
I know it may seem hard to accept reality that the guy you hate is still good, but it’s just a fact.
Hosford90
10th April 2022, 9:24
Also how dare you pull some smarmy ‘this is why I won’t be a subscriber’. As I’ve spent my life trying to explain to other awful people, you don’t get to offend and dangle the carrot of patent awfulness, then when someone has the audacity to call you out for your nonsense and do nothing more but call you out for exactly what you are and what you’re doing and no more, immediately become the typical conservative snowflake and go ‘waaa Keith the kids are being mean to me again, I’m never gonna subscribe coz you won’t get rid of the bad people hmph’.
You’re the bad person. You’re the villain in the story when it comes to this site/nearly anyone else engaging with you.

Once again Hamilton not getting the benifits of the SC. Im sure there’ll be the usual suspects showing up to say ‘told you so’ because Russell finished ahead of Hamilton.
Ferrari seems to have the championship, with Redbull victims of their own impatience with reliability issues.
Esploratore (@esploratore1)
12th April 2022, 11:20
Nah, not in this case, and you will probably find across this season that some people accused of being anti-hamilton sometimes like me or erikje aren’t really that anti-hamilton, I personally think he got really a great car across his career and that it has inflated his stats, I think hamilton did well in quali and at the start, being in 3rd place with that car is noteworthy, then the pace was there and he didn’t defend as much as I’d have hoped from perez, russell then got lucky with the SC timing and defended very well from perez, and I’d have liked if he continued, instead of giving in to team orders, but in any case I think both of them drove well this race and they seem evenly matched overall.
Indeed, red bull has no chance with this reliability, they should probably focus on 2nd unless they can improve it massively.

I wonder if Red Bull have made a mistake taking the power train production in house. If they had done a deal with Renault they may have finished more races. This could end up being like Williams and Benneton in the late 90s running Mecachrome/Supertec/Playlife losing ground to McLaren Mercedes and Ferrari.

Don’t agree, Alonso started his 3th race with a 3th (!) engine already. Honda is still producing and maintaining the RB engines.
I agree they h are in trouble, but I don’t think they would have won the 2021 drivers championship if they still had Renault engines.

Albon! Showed Williams can have the pace. Yeah, they had a bizarre strategy, but they were totally there on merit. Awesome drive.
It’s interesting to see RB with such a brittle engine. Been a while since reliability issues were so pervasive and influential.
Lots of interesting battles up and down the field. Glad the new refs have done what they were intended to do.
