  1. I can’t think of anyone who had a faultless weekend. Max was certainly impressive in the race but botched qualifying. I went with Schumacher as he was most impressive considering his record so far. Such a shame he missed out on points at the end.

    1. @tommy-c does anyone truly ever?

Not that this is what the poll is asking. And not that I necessarily interpret the polls conditions correctly either, as it asks us to rate the ‘whole’ weekend, but if someone had shockers in qualifying and practice, but finished – or even substantively raced – several positions ahead of where the car looks like it should be, they may well still get my vote. .

      1. Arguably Leclerc in Australia or Max in Imola. There’s usually at least one stand out performance but none jumped out at me this weekend. Probably due to it being a tricky new circuit.

    2. Carlos Sainz jr. He only binned it twice but managed to only bin one car th

    3. Carlos Sainz jr. He only binned it twice but managed to only bin one car the other time he wrecked his head which helped him correct his lines.

  2. I’m surprised no one voted for Leclerc. He maximised qualifying to put it on pole, even though theR ed Bull looked marginally quicker. In the race, he did the best he could. There was no way to keep Red Bull, with it’s straight line speed advantage behind.. but he gave it 100% and even had a shot to get back and win during the end.

He got my vote, with Max and Bottas tied for 2nd.

    1. Good point! I feel that ‘getting the most out of your material’ has been brought up numerous times in this section, both to vote or not vote for someone. Charles did a good job, though I feel Max was at a disadvantage before qualifying because of the lack of FP-running.

      1. And the argument implies that Max did not get the most out of his package, but Charles did, strange assumption.

    2. I mean, I give LEC all credits for his driving this season, and this race included.

But if we’re looking at VER and LEC for driver of the weekend, it’s just hard to go with LEC. Even with only a dozen laps on Friday, Max almost managed to put his car on pole and that small error on the final lap can be forgiven with how little running he did, then he absolutely bossed both Ferrari’s in the race, there’s no other way to put it. LEC and SAI had no answer for him, so I don’t think anyone could pick LEC over VER for driver of the weekend, honestly.

Danica. She looked radiant the whole weekend.

  4. I went for BOT as DOTW, as he maximized the machinery in both QLF & the race. DOTD is more easily VER.

    1. yep, sure, for crashing twice in a weekend and surely not maximazing what was clearly the 3rd fastest car this weekend.

  5. Voted for Max but it was hard if you had to take the whole weekend. I think Max, Charles, Bottas and Russel were the ones who were the best this weekend.

  6. Voted for Russel. The car had pace in practice and the setup was not up to the mark in qualifying. But in the race, after losing positions in the early laps, Russel could put the car in a position in top 10 where it was possible to benefit from safety car.

  7. Because the spotlights is always on the front of the race it is hard to see midfield drivers that outperform their car. Bottas did a great job but made a costly mistake at the end of the race. Ocon had a great race from the back of the field but got into that position by his own mistake. Maybe Albon but I’m not sure if he got lucky or deserves DOTW. Russel had a good race but got lucky with the SC and didn’t get into Q3 so don’t understand why he is so high in the poll.

    1. That’s the thing with Russell though, he didn’t “get lucky” with the safety car. He purposely drove his old hard’s far beyond their natural limit, keeping great pace on them even as they aged and considering how relatively poor that Mercedes drivers, until the safety car he was doing that for eventually came.

He could’ve made the safe choice and toiled around in the lower midfield by pitting on a normal strategy, but instead he anticipated and won. That’s a boon for Russell, not really luck. Sure, there was a chance he could’ve ended up lower if there had not been a safety car, but that doesn’t negate that he earned his luck by doing the work, finishing ahead of his teammate even while being well behind him on the grid only adds to his accomplishment.

      1. He gambled or anticipated on a SC so well earned 5th place no doubt. But that is not worthy of DOTW if you ask me.

      2. Still needed the SC, so a gamble and therefore lucky (but also smart in a sense) played the odds. had it come much later or not at all he would have been a sitting duck on old tires.

Bottas & Albon impressed me most.

  9. DOTW No opinion / no one, for the first time ever. DOTD Max.

  10. I went with Russel because of the number of places he was able to make up in the race and his strategy of staying out on old tires in the (likely) chance of a safety car.

  11. Guys voting for Bottas and Albon, I’m truly sorry, but racing is not your thing.

  12. I liked verstappen’s race but have to agree with those who voted for leclerc, he maximised the potential of the car over the weekend, there was no way he could defend from verstappen with the straight line speed he had when he got overtaken, he tried to repass him after the SC, verstappen also did a good job defending ofc, and verstappen made a mistake in quali which cost him a very likely pole.

    1. Ah, although not contenders for driver of the weekend, good job by hamilton and russell, russell had great tyre management to get that far before stopping, then ofc was lucky, hamilton did a better job in quali but overall if giving ratings I would have to give him something more than russell this weekend, and schumacher such a shame, was almost scoring points till the contact with vettel in the final laps.
