Ralph Boschung’s Campos team has confirmed that he will withdraw from the Barcelona Formula 2 round after suffering neck pain during free practice.
Boschung, the most experienced driver on the F2 grid, did not crash at the last round in Imola but Campos said that his pain had developed during that event. In a statement, the team explained that “unfortunately, our driver Boschung will not be able to participate in this weekend’s round in Barcelona.
“The Swiss driver began to have significant neck pain after round three in Imola. However, he was confident he would be able to race this weekend but after today’s free practice he realised that he could not drive to the best of his abilities and has decided to withdraw from the event and focus on his recovery to try to be 100% for the next round in Monaco.
“Obviously the team fully supports his decision and wishes him a quick recovery.”
After generally fighting at the top end of times all season so far, Boschung was only able to place 17th fastest during F2’s free practice session and 1.904 seconds off Felipe Drugovich’s lead time. He completed 12 laps during the practice session, which was around average for all drivers in the session.
Boschung is currently sixth in the F2 championship, with one podium in the Imola feature race. Formula 2’s next round is in a week’s time, in Monaco, with only one further race two weeks later in Baku.
Previously this season, Cem Bolukbasi withdrew from the Saudi Arabian F2 round with concussion resulting from a crash during qualifying. Bolukbasi then missed the Imola round altogether, after being diagnosed with a broken rib following a further crash during in-season testing.

Well they certainly aren’t ice hockey players. Further evidence that race drivers shouldn’t call themselves athletes. Nut up man!
