Williams will mark its 800th grand prix start one race before it reaches the milestone, by sporting a special livery for its home round.
The team was originally due to reach its landmark eighth century of grands prix at Silverstone next month. However the cancellation of April’s Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix means the team should now start its 800th race in Hungary two weeks later.Williams’ FW45 will appear in a “bespoke livery” at Silverstone, the team announced, and carry a “special emblem” marking its 800th start at the Hungaroring.
“Reaching the milestone of our 800th grand prix is a remarkable achievement for Williams Racing,” said James Vowles, who took over as Williams team principal earlier this year.
The team has finished bottom of the standings in three of the last four seasons. However it has won the constructors’ championship more times than any of its rivals bar Ferrari, and taken the likes of Jacques Villeneuve, Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell, Keke Rosberg and Alan Jones to the driver’s title.
“We are incredibly proud of our history and the legacy built over the years,” Vowles continued. “Over our 46-year history, the team has achieved incredible results. With nine constructors’ championships and seven drivers’ titles to our name we are the second most successful Formula 1 team of all time, only behind Ferrari.”
As part of the Silverstone celebrations, Williams’ brand ambassador Jenson Button will drive the FW14B which dominated the 1992 season during the British Grand prix weekend.
“We invite all our fans to join us in this celebration as we pay tribute to our iconic past and look towards a bright future,” concluded Vowles.
Williams is also due to run a special livery at the Singapore Grand Prix in honour of one of its sponsors.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Rothmans livery, I wouldn’t mind seeing the current car in that.

Brilliant livery but I preffered the one they had before with Canon and Camel sponsorship. They re tried a Rothmans style few years ago hope they do a near exact copy of the one they used to have that Mansell won the title in.

I hope its not every iconic livery mixed together. Its going to be a mess. In the end its impossible to please everyone so its not an easy job

I prefer the Camel-Canon livery from 1992 – blue, yellow and white.

These “one-off” special liveries are getting increasingly common, perhaps too common

If you can’t have one for your 800th race, when can have you one?
