‘APX GP’ team car for Brad Pitt movie production appears at Silverstone

The special filming car set up to shoot footage for an upcoming Hollywood film about Formula 1 has been seen for the first time at Silverstone.

The movie, being co-produced by Lewis Hamilton’s Dawn Apollo production company, stars Brad Pitt as racing driver Sonny Hayes who returns to F1 to race in a final season.

To allow film makers to capture footage, two garages along the Silverstone pit lane have been set up for the fictional ‘APX GP’ team, with Pitt’s character and fictional team mate Joshua Pearce – played by Damson Idris – each having their own driver identification banners over the two garages.

The production car – a modified F2 machine – will be driven around the Silverstone circuit during various breaks in the track schedule over the British Grand Prix weekend.

Silverstone is not the only round that the production crew will be present in the pit lane. Teams have been told to expect the crew to be present across many of the remaining rounds of this season.

Despite the presence of the film crew, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has said he does not expect it to be a distraction for teams over the rest of the season.

“I don’t think it is,” he said when asked by RaceFans. “In the end, one more camera or one less camera, I don’t think we realise it that much.”

What an odd way to start a Ferrari. ;-)

    1. Looks well practised… wonder why. 🤔😉

    2. Probably practice for the winter olympics bobsled event?

Well, that’s the winner of the caption competition sorted. :)

They’re also filming a Cool Running sequel.

  2. Ah, with AMG-branding on that Renault lump, this is the Mercedes Citan of F1 cars.

  3. Over this film, I would prefer a documentary about how they modified the F2 to look like an F1 car.

    1. That would indeed be interesting to know.

Since it’s based on a F2 car, it’s likely that Dallara did the conversion themselves.
Through the cooperation with Haas they know how a modern F1 car is built. So they probably took some discarded Haas ideas and Ferrari parts and put them on the F2 chassis.

    2. I wonder what sort of lap times it produces.

  4. Nice to see Mercedes partners IWC and Tommy Hilfiger supporting a team at the other end of the grid… :)

  5. I’m more interested on the numbers “7” and “9”. I think Kimi used to hold number 7, is number 9 still free on the driver numbers list?

Is it faster than the Mercs?

    2. Nikita Mazepin wants his number back!

  6. Who was driving it?

  7. How does Horner feel about Mercedes and Ferrari getting a clear run in and out of their pit (with one T)?

    1. He had first choice so pretty good otherwise he is a idiot.

Whats the odds on Joshua Pearce suffering a life ending or carrear ending crash?

    1. On Silverstone? 100% i think they will take footage of last year Cho crash ….

  9. Not a bad looking livery either. I like the two-tone black.

Matt & gloss in your favourites? Is that living room or bedroom decor ;)

  10. Who’s actually driving the filming car?
