Pictures from the first day of testing for the 2024 F1 season at the Bahrain International Circuit.

All 10 cars hit the track for the first time within minutes of the test beginning, led by George Russell in the Mercedes. Most are due to hand over to their team mates in the afternoon, but Russell will spend the whole day in the W15 and Max Verstappen also has a full day’s running in the new Red Bull RB20.

The usual hot and sunny conditions greeted teams at the desert circuit which will hold the first round of the new season next week.

  1. It’s good to be back! The Stake (or is it Kick now?) looks nicer in motion than I’d like to admit, still think it’s a horrid livery from a design sense.

    1. I’ve finally realised where I last saw that lurid green on an F1 car… The 1995 and 1996 Minardis. The Saubers just need a splash of white on the airbox and side pods and they’d be there. Let’s hope Bottas and Zhou fare better than Pedro Lamy and Giovanni Lavaggi.

  2. The pictures show that livery designers completely fail to consider different viewing angles of the car.
McLaren’s livery only looks good seen from the side. Any other angle and it’s disgusting. Although that’s probably mostly down to the disgusting shapes of F1 cars these days.

  3. Trellis wars. Ferrari seem to be expecting more air flowing through than anyone else, Red Bullocks have spent the longest making theirs look nice, and Red Bull’s is going back on the grill later.

  4. Lovely bit of detail on the Williams front wing endplate, the dive plane looks like a wedge of cheese which I’ve not seen before.

Great to see all the new cars in action!

  5. Not long now!

    I’m chomping and foaming!

  6. The Williams and Alpine are going to be tough to distinguish

    1. I mean the Alpine and Williams

Safety car has got the best test livery of all!

    1. Is it a new model they haven’t launched yet?

  8. The RB looks way snazzier on track than I thought it would. But egad, that Sauber…the words design and livery are far too charitable for whatever that is.

  9. The Stake/Kick Sauber livery reminds me of Jaguar & some other predominantly green single-seaters from the front in some distant opposite views.

  10. I’m so happy F1 is back, but definitely a bit disappointed at the pics. They look like they are from cell phone not a proper camera; they are so pixelated. I’ve got pics saved from 20 years ago that are so much better. Honestly; the hi-res pics are what have always separated this great site from all the rest. I’m probably nit picking, but they have been so compressed they are distracting, at least to me.

However, this will always be my go to site for all things F1….Just head and shoulders above the rest.

  11. I can’t see how the effective visual blinkers on the Red Bull are permitted.
The driver cannot see anything unless it is in front, or is far enough behind to be in the mirrors.

The blind spot must be massive, like a Ford Transit with broken mirrors.
