A largely straightforward race with some excitement towards the end.

I could’ve added at the time that despite the last few laps, still the worst 2024 race thus far as a whole.

Thanks for the info. Haven’t seen anything F1 related since Miami (don’t even know the starting grid) so now I know not to bother watching the whole thing or anything at all lol. Glad I didn’t wast my time.
It really seems I’ve moved on from F1 now for good, after first watching from 2.5 years old, and then avidly from late 2006 as a child, I don’t even care to see a list of the result. Even after a surprise and first time win at the last race.
Well I guess this comment has turned into a eulogy..
It had it’s good times and there were many great times of sporting brilliance, of epic feats; some across corners some across races, across seasons and over both complete and yet uncompleted careers. There’s many F1 moments I remember for a long time and largely they involved the racing. I won’t talk about the bad there’s enough said on that.
The last couple seasons i perhaps stayed too long mainly out of habit. It seems fitting then to say, now it’s over.. goodbye everyone.

Watching anything else instead?

Moto GP indycar and combat sports.. much less disappointing. Better camera work and sense of speed too

As you tried to not watch anything or not hear about the starting grid, I gotta say I found this race very very boring, I was watching it live before going to bed but after like lap 25 I couldn’t continue, there was just no competition ahead, just not what I’m looking for, so I turned off, went to bed and then now watched the full replay skipping forward to whenever something interesting was happening, I prefer this to the highlights cause they often leave out stuff, but the only interesting thing was norris’ chase on verstappen the last few laps, this year for the first time in a long while I decided that if competition sucks in a race, especially with the usual suspects being ahead, I’m not wasting time to watch it fully, which means I’m unable to watch races like this live.

Had a similar thing with a race earlier this season 18 laps in.
I see what you mean. Had a similar mindset previously also. To watch or not to watch live.
Although I have a little bias I’m still inclined to say don’t be afraid to try something else. I realised it was kinda weird continuously watching a sport that more often than not is a let down. Life’s too short. Excuse me if it’s a stretch but it’s a bit like a sort of abusive or manipulative relationship. Constantly being built up and led on only to be let down very often, yet still returning for more again and again and again and being confused why.
The good things is you can always check after if it was good or not without spoilers. Yes this requires some tip toes but isn’t too hard if you reset cookies and things but indeed for some would require a lot of time undoing on socials too. Personally it felt great to not care this weekend and then even though when I came to check here if it was a good race I wasn’t afraid of a spoiker and that’s the keto I think.
There’s plenty alts if it’s sports you’re wanting. Moto GP and indycar being the best since they’re so similar to F1 yet far superior on track. If you also just want to see battles and close competition nothing better than combat sports UFC and boxing namely.
Otherwise.. and if course this will vary person to person. But sometimes it’s about filling a void . And sometimes it’s just recognising that you’re fed up with spend your valuable time on something that’s let you down 20 plus times already.
Anyway all the best!

Not exactly a classic but promising that McLaren and Ferrari are getting there. It’s starting to show Perez as a bit of a weak link which may well jeopardise Red Bull in the constructors championship. I didn’t really expect Norris to get as close as he did towards the end there. Gave it a 6.

One of the worst races this year. These cars are terrible at overtaking when a track doesn’t offer a generic long straight to a hairping combo.
BasCB (@bascb)
19th May 2024, 17:25
This track is beautiful, but racing here is only exciting with modern cars when the cars start being driven on the ragged edge and we get in “a small mistake and someone ends up in the gravel” – but these drivers are good enough that we hardly get to see that.

8/10, I enjoyed that.
I’ve really enjoyed the whole weekend as I just love this track, It’s great watching the cars on an old school track with character. The fact it’s narrow with not a lot of runoff and a lot of elevation just makes watching the cars going around it exciting on it’s own.
Fine there wasn’t a huge amount of overtaking and stuff going on but i’ve never needed that to find a race exciting & in a lot of cases actually prefer races more like this than the overtaking/DRS-fest’s on the mile wide more modern circuits that I tend to just not get the same level of enjoyment out of watching cars lapping.

A 4 from me.
I also love Imola to both watch and to drive on Vid games, but in all honesty, nothing happened today.
The only reason to I have enjoyed this one is because it looks like the Red Bull dream team might be coming under pressure at last.
I don’t care if Max wins the next ten seasons, so long as he has to Win them.
Let’s see some racing up at the front.

Another race that just reinforces how we need cars that can actually overtake again.

I hope this race helped to convince everybody that F1 cant get rid of DRS yet.
With ineffective DRS we didnt see “tougher” overtakes, we’ve seen no overtakes.
With older cars, they wouldnt even try to follow closer than 2 seconds.

One of the very few where I made the conscious decision to take a nap after a few laps and what a great decision it was. Woke up, turned on F1TV, fast forwarded through the rest of the race.
Which was terrible, by the way. 2/10.

Indeed, watched about 20 laps live, turned off, watched the full replay tonight skipping forward to when there was some action and only redeeming thing was norris chasing verstappen in the end, I gave it 3 and I saw there’s plenty who gave it 6, 7, 8 but still 40% of people thought this was not good enough (5 or less).
Neil (@neilosjames)
19th May 2024, 16:39
Pretty awful. Not sure there was a single pass for net position without a huge tyre offset, and I can maybe recall one or two bits of action that weren’t DRS drive-bys halfway down the straight.
Even the ‘battles’ were just processions… cars running reasonably close and in DRS range (0.5-0.7s or so), but that was too far back for the attacker to get anywhere near the defender into a braking zone. I don’t need overtaking for a race to be exciting, but I do need to be able to believe a bit of wheel-to-wheel stuff could happen…
Imola’s fun to drive on a game and I like watching the cars on the edge in qualifying, but I wouldn’t be sorry to see the back of it.

There should be a mandatory wet track for some races that are just terrible under the dry, imola is pretty good when it rains.

Race was not special until the final 10 laps, but I prefer to see cars driving on this circuit above circuits clad in iron fencing or bordered by enourmous spaces of asphalt, that this race still gets a 9/10 from me.

The highlights were entirely forgettable, save for some great camera positioning. The one with the house overlooking the drop into Acque Minerali was excellent, as was the shot with the hill entirely covered in fans. Almost made the famously huge Indianapolis stands look small.
But yeah. These cars… thanks Ross.

I seem to be in a minority position, but I loved the race. It was exciting to see Norris putting pressure on Verstappen in a straight fight, without outside influence. Gives me hope for future races of the season. Sure, there will be tracks where Red Bull is dominant, but i hope there will be more races like this one.

Beautiful setting and spectacle, tedious parade that I suspect was over-engineered by the race engineers. Wish something could be done with the Villeneuve chicane to make Tosa a natural passing place again.

6:10. An average race on a beautiful circuit. It all looks great but the cars can hardly pass which is a shame. A little boring really early on.
Interesting how it ebbs and flows. At one stage it looked like Leclerc was going to catch and pass Norris but then the Ferrari began to fade. I don’t suppose his excursion of circuit helped.
A great old school race finish with Lando reeling in Max lap by lap. Another lap or two and he would have had him. What a story that would have been. This added a point for me.

Borefest with litterally zero overtakes or even chance of overtake. Only DRS passes on new tyres vs 30+ laps ones.
Watched in replay after a lot of other activities, happy not to have lost my time on this.
Probably even the race highlight will be boring.

Amazed to see this score settle at about a 6 or 7. In my book this was a clear 2 or 3. I do not see a single reason to keep this track on the calendar given there is already a race in Italy

4 out of 10 and before the last laps it would’ve been 2 out of 10 at best. Shortening the only drs zone at imola by 100 meters was a brainless decision. On the contrary it should’ve been extended by 100 meters. That’s the short term fix. if imola wants to stay on the calendar long term they would be wise to find a comprehensive solution for the racing problem.
