The Monaco Grand Prix has been stopped on the first lap of race following a multi-car collision.
Sergio Perez suffered extensive damage to his Red Bull after colliding with the two Haas drivers. All three emerged from their cars unscathed. The crash left debris scattered on the hill up towards Massenet and extensive damage to a barrier struck by Perez and Kevin Magnussen.
The collision began as Magnussen tried to draw alongside Perez on the right-hand side of the Red Bull. As the barrier closed in on the right-hand side, Magnussen made contact with Perez’s right-rear, spinning him sideways into the barrier on the right-hand side.
As the cars bounced off the barrier they collected the second Haas of Nico Hulkenberg. All three were eliminated, Perez’s car having lost three of its four wheels.
Two other collisions occurred on the first lap. Carlos Sainz Jnr tangled with Oscar Piastri at Sainte Devote and pulled off at Casino with a puncture. The stewards announced both incidents will not be investigated.
Further around the lap the Alpine drivers collided as Esteban Ocon tried to overtake Pierre Gasly at Portier, which resulted in Ocon’s retirement. The stewards are investigating this incident.
The race will restart at 3:44pm local time. Race control announced they will revert to the original starting order, meaning Sainz will return to third place on the grid behind Charles Leclerc and Piastri. The Ferrari driver was running 16th when the race was red-flagged according to F1’s timing screens.

If Magnussen wasn’t on 10 penalty points, he would almost certainly collect them for this.
I wonder what will happen?
There’s a temptation to give a someone a break when they’re in a tight spot… but ultimately if you let a driver race when they’re proven to gamble with safety, you run the risk of them causing an incident.

Next race without KMag hopefully. Totally unnecessary crash caused by his stubborn driving.

This is the most exciting Grand Prix in history. The FIA really got it right with these cars. And the future looks even brighter. And for anybody that doesn’t like, don’t watch!

That’s the most predictable comment for the Monaco GP

That was just plain criminal by Magnussen. Forget about the penalty points ban, Haas themselves need to bench them.
Also Ocon… what a clown.

Don’t think Magnussen’s move was that egregious on this occasion, the gap was there and Perez didn’t have to close the door on him like that. It was so clear from the onboard Perez knew exactly where Magnussen was and decided he’d rather turn into him than let him have a chance at the overtake.

Most boring Monaco race I’ve ever seen. What a dreadful piece of television. I haven’t switched off in 10 or so years but this one deserved it. Awful, just awful.
