  1. A somewhat straightforward race for a large portion, but overall decent.

    1. This was a great race, won’t get much better than this (been watching since ‘94) not sure what one could wise for to make it even better? (Apart from maybe Verstappen not wining, but George only has himself to blame for that and Lando his team – but really even still it was great race that doesn’t come bye that often)

Apparantly the SC was called just after Lando past the pit entry, so just pure bad luck there.

Making a so-called rain master look decidedly average was pretty good while it lasted though.

        1. No norris car was fastest by far! (Thats what you say when somebody you dont support does a good job)

      2. Verstappen deserved to win imo, he’s the one who made the lowest amount of mistakes all weekend out of all those who were in contention and he, unsurprisingly, came closest to the maximum pace all the time, it didn’t feel like he lost a pole, it felt like he did damage limitation in quali.

I gave this race 9, I agree that calling it decent seems too harsh, especially after calling other imo not so decent races “decent”, as for what one could wish to make it better, heavy rain towards the end, sort of like dutch 2023, but possibly without zhou crashing and bringing out the red flag.

        1. +1 I totaly agree with you

  2. 9/10 – kept us guessing until the end for the podium and until the last 10 laps for the win. Best race of the year so far.

  3. Wet races are always decent. Particularly interesting here because McLaren had the best wet pace, and Mercedes the best dry pace.

… of course, Max pipped them all… unflappable

      Wet races are always decent

      Like Spa 2021 ;)

      1. Spa 2021 wasn’t a race – it was a fiasco.

      2. If they had raced it’d have been more than decent, if f1 fanatic had been around back in 1998 I believe spa would’ve been rated 10 by the majority of voters and spa 2021 could’ve been something similar.

        1. What a total joke that was. Just part of the new, bumper lanes bowling level F1.

    2. That was because it was changing weather all the time the one will win who were above average in all conditions.

  4. Preferred Monaco tbf

    1. That’s surprising, I don’t see how that’s possible, considering the strategic element monaco has with the importance of track position was absent in this year’s race due to the early red flag, and as a wet race, canada had this strategic element.

  5. Brilliant race with many variables being thrown in the mix.

Max joins the tiny club of driver with 60 races wins – Max joined at age 26y8m10d being exactly to the day 6 years younger then Hamilton when he made it a club together with Schumacher on 17 Sept 2017 at age 32y8m10d being 10 months younger than Schumacher when he became the first driver with 60 wins.

    1. Impressive how young he is at getting such a massive amount of wins, but he also joined f1 around 6 years younger than his competitors; with the amount of races nowadays I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up with the new win record eventually, and he keeps proving that even when the car isn’t dominant you can never count him out of the potential winners.

      1. Correct his only bad luck he wasn’t in a title winning car in the first part of his years in F1.

  6. An 8 for me. Would have preferred a Norris win. Need more rain races.

It can’t get much better than this.

The safety car ruined the race. Sargent destroyed an interesting situation developing. This is still not a good enough racing and Red Bull still have a lot more pace than they are showing.

    1. No they dont, think they let norris run away with 2 sec a lap for fun?

    2. Yes, that wasn’t helpful for the race, but then again what good does sargeant being in f1 bring? None that I can think of.

  9. I would give it a 5-7/10.

Those cars are terrible, just terrible. A very good track for overtaking and absolutely best weather conditions for overtaking…. yet, the only type of overtakes were DRS ones on the long straight.

Also, Formula 1 is pathetic, even in such a randomizing conditions, the result is determined by what car you drive from top to bottom of the finishing list. I expect so much more from a wet race.

    1. “the result is determined by what car you drive from top to bottom of the finishing list” Bruh welcome to F1, what did you expect? Bottas won the race and Verstappen struggling in P17?

    2. Even so, driving a good car isn’t enough to succeed in wet conditions, as perez proved with his race-ending spin from already way back, we even have a direct witness, who can describe the mistake in detail: gasly (was right behind him as he spun)!

    3. Yes, it’s a bit sad that overtakes in unusual spots aren’t happening in the wet nowadays, compared to the 80s\90s.

  10. RUS seems to choke during the big moments. Decent race due to the rain. Will see what penalty PER gets for driving that car around.

    1. If Russell had some patience with Piastri he could’ve got close to Max. If he didn’t hit the kerb when chasing Max the first time he could’ve won comfortably. He needs to have some composure

    2. Norris ran wide and let Russell past; then Russell had a twitch of oversteer to let Norris past.

They both slipped in the rain in those laps, and they both collected their cars (unlike some others).

I don’t think it’s reasonable to look at that pair of mistakes and throw shade on just 1 of the 2 drivers. I think it was just a tough, wet race. Look at Sainz a few laps later!

      1. I wasn’t basing my RUS comment on just this race. This race was just another example of him choking at the big moment. I agree with the other comment that he need to be patient for 1 more lap.

    3. Didn’t choke in Brazil 2022, but today wasn’t great but the car wasn’t quite good enough.

    4. In fairness to perez, he spun that car around, but he also set it straight again within a couple of seconds (assuming you’re talking about the start).

    5. Russell is a choke artist. Seems like that’s been clear for a while. And, yes, I am bashing him. He deserves to be. Some people are now hailing George as finally being part of that elite group because he’s beating an aging and demotivated Hamilton who is leaving the team at the end of the season.

  11. once more DRS ruining an otherwise brilliant race. gave it 9, could be an easy 10

  12. Really good race. Did the SC get called after Lando had passed the pits or did they stupidly decide to stay out? There seemed to be a really strange delay between the crash and the SC getting called as it was immediately obvious they’d need one to clear the track.

    1. Safety car was declared after Lando passed the pit entry, but in time to beat Lando to the pit exit.

It was a very narrow time window. Shame: I’d have loved to see Max (who seemed to have a quicker car than McLaren in the dry phases) restart behind him.

      1. Ah missed that, massively bad luck then, or good luck depending who you are.

      2. It wasn’t bad luck. It was incompetence. When was the last time a car stopped on track or even within a mile of the track hasn’t triggered a safety car?

        1. I’ll add that even Lando himself said the team blew it. It’s odd that of the usual 20 post-race articles on RF, that his comments aren’t one of them.

        2. It isn’t a good idea to pit if you think a safety car will come. Imagine he pitted but they took another 30seconds to call the safety car, Norris would have pitted at full speed, while Verstappen etc complete another lap and pit under safety car conditions. Norris would have lost out badly as well.

          1. It was such a bad idea that their competitors called in their drivers before the SC actually pulled out.

  13. A proper Canadian GP on a drying track. Enjoyed that (apart from the DRS, just leave it turned off until MOM gets in) Shame about the boring result, we’ll never know whether Norris stayed out too long or if he just has zero killer instinct.

LOL until MOM gets in had me laughing bro

      1. Who or what is MOM?

  14. Fantastic! Such a shame that things fell apart for Ferrari so early on. I wonder if Red Bull is regretting their decision on Perez yet… he looked very average all weekend. It was hard to pick a winner with 10 laps to go. It was anyone’s race really! Gave it a 9.

    1. Average is a compliment, considering he was well out of the points with a red bull! That’s well below average imo.

  15. A different winner and this could’ve been an all time great.

Still a great race but will be forgotten quickly.

    7.5/10

    1. Bit pathetic to let a winner decide wether you like the race or not.

    2. And that says something about you.

      1. I think both you (Erik) and @mosquito are wrong here. How many MSC wins do you recall? How many VET during his run? How many HAM wins? Some, probably, but not all the good ones.

Meanwhile, I bet a ton of people can recall Maldonado winning. Panis. Button in Montreal 2011. Verstappen winning during a series of dominant seasons (even if this one is a bit less dominant) will never be remembered or thought of as fondly than if someone else squeaked through.

Maybe kuvemar has ulterior motives or has a lot of bad takes or bias that I am not aware of? Maybe not, I don’t know. But on this point, for this moment, they are correct.

  16. Best race of the year
Best pass of the season (Albon)

    1. Ohh, yes, the double pass in a straight was awesome!

  17. By far the best race of the season. Perhaps the best since 2022.

  18. Great race that was edge of the seat for quite a lot of the race.

Great race, no matter what was thrown at the drivers today with rain and safety cars or for that matter if it had been dry all day Max was going to be a factor. Best part of the race was knowing we have 3 or 4 legitimately fast teams right now. Ferrari being the 4th and uncompetitive today but at least F1 is beginning to be fun to watch again.

  20. As much as I thoroughly enjoyed the race, I hovered over the ratings and went with my gut and a 6. In hindsight maybe a 7 was fairer. There were some really enjoyable overtakes, but many were still quite straightforward or the result of errors ahead. Of course, seeing drivers under pressure make mistakes is still very engaging. Additionally, the varying track conditions contributed to a lot of this action and I would feel that increasing my rating for those consequences would be like a vote for Bernie’s sprinkler system.

Other than that I can’t really explain why I wouldn’t go higher other than being quite certain that it was not a 9 or 10, as races deserving those scores need to be ones that I will remember for years to come. As fun as it was, this was not one of those races.

  21. 5-way battle for the win with many crashes, error and unpredictable results. Way better than the “battle” between Verstappen and Norris in the last 5 lap in San Marino. 9, not 10 because McLaren gave the win to Verstappen.

  22. 10 (18%)
    9 (35%)
    8 (33%)
    7 (7%)
    6 (3%)
    5 (1%)
    4 (1%)
    1 (3%)

Really a good race, I went for 9 and I really liked the fact that early on the haas were legitimately the fastest cars on full wets, so basically they were allowed to race on a track wet enough for the wets, which are considered very slow compared to the intermediates, to actually be the best tyre, and that is very rare to see in f1 nowadays, I think we have to go back to canada 2022 q1 for full wet to be the best tyre in a competitive session, as in my checks at the end of dutch 2023, before the red flag, it looked like ocon (the only driver on the wets) was gaining 2 seconds in a part of the track on others and losing 2 sec in the other part, so it was about the crossover.

The score speaks for itself, over 5\6 of voters went for 8-9-10 and it goes up to 15\16 if we also take 7s into account, must definitely be one of the best races of the last many years.

We had almost 2\3 of the race with intermediates\full wets, the crossover brought in some strategic element, again ferrari didn’t impress in these conditions, leaving leclerc on hard tyres (the worst tyre of all) on a still wet track, to eventually pit again for inters, interesting that norris stayed out a couple more laps and got fastest laps on inters when slicks looked like the better tyre.

Plenty of overtakes, especially liked the time albon overtook 2 cars on the long straight, unfortunately that was basically the only passing point, and there were also some overtakes due to mistakes, such as russell vs norris, which allowed the other driver to come back ahead.

For a 10 I’d have wanted some heavier rain, maybe towards the end, like dutch 2023, or even russia 2021.

    1. Oh, and ofc the fact we had 3 very competitive teams, with mclaren being better on a drying track and merc\red bull on the dry was definitely a good thing as well.

  23. I gave it a 6, which I think is fair. It’s plain to see a lot of people on here are starved of any decent races (pretty much every race this year has been amongst the worst in F1’s history), so the moment you get anything above average, people think the race is a 10, when it’s definitely not compared to previous seasons. Still, it was very watchable for most of the race, but as some others have said, Sargent binning it did take out a lot of strategy from that part of the race. Albon’s double overtake was a highlight as well for sure, and it was fun to see the Haas gamble paying off for the first few laps or so. I’m glad they didn’t go for the overly cautious SC start or a rolling start anyway.

    1. This is at least a 7++/10 in any f1 season. Verstappen winning it again perhaps weighs on the overall score.

  24. 8/10 for me. Could have been a 9 in today’s F1 world. Canada with any rain present always delivers. See 2011.

I wonder what it would have been like with no rain. Nowhere near as interesting I expect.
