  1. Now Horner will be haunted by fan’s critics against Checo during first half

  2. A 20 point McLaren lead is much bigger than expected – thanks to that penultimate lap crash, and Perez not quite taking second just before that.

    1. Exactly, I was surprised about leclerc defending that second place as if it was a win and his last race of his career!

Mclaren’s lead would’ve been very small had it not been for that crash and ferrari is pretty far back now; shame for perez, it’s so rare he has a good race\outperforms verstappen.

  3. Ferrari should be passing Red Bull by the end of the season too.
With Norris, Leclerc and Piastri trading wins, Verstappen probably still keeps the title. But if not, if Verstappen keeps finishing around 5th and does lose the title, really difficult to say who of those three wins.

    1. The main adversary to VER title is a DNF.
Otherwise, he is in the business of not letting NOR outscore him at more than 5pt per race.
p.s.: I am not a huge VER fan, but if he win this 4th title, he will gain some point on my scorebook.

      1. For me it depends, Verstappen was lacklustre today. If the Red Bull is 4th fastest and he wins a few podiums, thereby holding on to the title, then yes, totally. But if he wins with fairly humdrum performances, only because the others are trading wins, then it’ll be disappointing.

        1. A 4th title in 2024 would mean that he can play the hand he was dealt and not only benefit from a car the could lap the field before the first pitstop. It would demand VER to show a different level of his driver abilities, other than win a race by 30sec.
If he cant hold NOR – particularly with NOR inconsistency – the “it was always the car” debate about VER would be hotter than it was about HAM-MERC golden years.

          1. Sure, I was impressed by Verstappen up to Austria, especially from Imola on when the other teams started catching him/Red Bull. The past few races he seems to have become lost in the set up and unable to do much. Understandable he’s frustrated and a bit unnerved, but he should still be outpacing Pérez at most circuits.

          2. MGus.ai i agree a title this yr would be good but Lando as absoloutley dropped the ball his adversary has made it far easier. Lewis or Leclerc or Russel would be kneck and kneck right now and big fav. Lando even said after practise this race see were not quick everywhere, well Lando ya teammate won and now has the same amount of wins as you…

        2. For a guy that some people here said could win in a Hass, his performances has been really desapointing latelly. I’m starting to think that genius behind Verstappen domination was Andrian Newey.

          1. Kind of Vettel 2? I actually think both are great drivers in their different ways, but Newey has something special. Peter Windsor made the great point that Newey is himself a racing fanatic, working with his drivers is a primary condition for him, and he has input in the garage on setup. Bundle those together and you can see that if one driver shows a particular aptitude for the car he’s designed, a symbiotic relationship could form. That maybe explains how Vettel and Verstappen dominated so much against other teams and against their team mates. I think Verstappen is exceptional, though, a brilliant handler of the car and extremely versatile. I just don’t think that translates as 0.5 seconds quicker than everyone else as some of his more ardent fans think.

        3. @david-br That would seem like ignoring the first half of the season though. In my opinion the McLaren has been the best car to have already this season, or at worst about on par with the Redbull. And yet Verstappen is still 59 points clear in the championship. That’s because Max and Redbull have maximised their potential far better over the season so far than McLaren have. So to me, if Max is only able to drag mediocre results out of the car for the rest of the season but still hangs on, then he has more than earned the championship. In fact, it would be one of the rare feats in F1 history where a driver wins while definitively not having the best car over the season.

  4. With Williams’ form, they should be able to stay ahead of Alpine… but whether or not they catch RB/Haas fundamentally depends on how much drama there will be in F1a until the end of the year.

  5. I think this will be pointed somewhere else, but Bearman became the first driver to score a WDC point on his debut for a team with two different teams on the same season.

  6. This title for Max this yr will be like the Vet/Ham title fights of 17/18. Lando has choked it away big time, i would even argue more than Vet did. As Mclaren have a bigger delta over Rbull

  7. Heres my conspiracy theory for today, Sainz took out Perez to give Williams more points ;)

  8. Best of the Rest Championship*:
    1) Haas 482 (HUL 276, MAG 191, BEA 15)
    2) RB 426 (TSU 220, RIC 206)
    3) Alpine 378 (GAS 190, OCO 188)
    4) Williams 320 (ALB 207, SAR 80, COL 33)
    5) Sauber 209 (ZHO 110, BOT 99)

    * regular points structure for bottom 5 teams, incl. FLAP & Sprint points
