  1. I am so torn.
Colapinto has had a remarkable second F1 weekend and fully deserves the highest praise.
But Lando’s fight back to finish as he did was not what I was expecting, so Lando gets it.

I would go Colapinto for the weekend but Lando for the race if I could.

Full marks to Oscar for his first genuine (and hard fought) win of course.

    1. Yeah, there were quite a few really deserving drivers today / this weekend. Norris, Colapinto, Piastri. Perez until that crash too, Bearman had a really solid weekend as well. Leclerc did a solid job too, although he misjudged a few moments, as goes for Russel having a quit but really good weekend.

Really a good weekend for F1, I would say.

      1. #44 – 2024 WDC

        1. #33 for only ranting about his car twice throughout a whole race distance.

    2. Fantastic drives:
      -Piastri
-Leclerc (did he have a slow pit stop?)
      -Checo (out drove Max easily)
-Alonso (his car was crap and slower than the Williams, which was good enough for FC to score on his Baku debut)
-Franco (utterly fantastic) who also overtook Hulk to get in the points before the crash

I’ll give it to Oscar and Franco.

  2. Colapinto for me as both the DOTW & DOTD.

As it’s DOTW rather than DOTD I’ve got to give it to Colapinto. Great weekend from him.

As for race there was several good drives today throughout the field.

Norris since he had a chance a victory if there was no yellow flag and was able to beat Max.

    1. Norris would have crashed so many times or blown it some other way so many times in Oscar’s situation.

    2. Norris is good at shadow boxing. Doesn’t go that well when someone takes the fight to him.

  5. Piastri, outqualified his team mate, took the lead with a great pass and held on flawlessly. Congratulations for his first proper win. Also some excellent rookie performances from Colapinto and Bearman. Leclerc was beaten but stuck in there, so also a good weekend.
I’m not convinced by Norris as driver of the weekend at all. Still think dropping out in Q1 was a lot down to him, with McLaren also risking the strategy. And really passing Verstappen wasn’t a big ask today.

    1. Norris doesn’t deserve driver of the weekend in a single category let alone overall. He’s finishing 6th without a crash beating only a struggling Max. And would have could have counts for nothing. There are about 6 drivers at least who were more impressive (everyone who finished ahead of him + FA, FC, AA and NH).

      1. Yep, that’s how I saw it. Though I’d put a question mark on Pérez because I think he may have ruined his own otherwise excellent race (TBH I’ll have to see some replays to confirm that impression).

        1. Did someone try to give him DOTW other than Michael?

Meanwhile, another race in which George seems to purely luck into a podium. TBF though, the Mercedes looked pretty mediocre. Oddly, it looked like Max’s RBR in terms of pace.

      2. >beating only a struggling Max

Ummm, beating “only” the championship leader when you’re second isn’t a bad effort. Talk was of him likely losing his 2nd place to Leclerc pre-race so to extract the result he did after qually was pretty impressive I thought. It was a great recovery drive (including the requisite luck with Perez).

The lead has been narrowed to less than 60 points, with 7 races to go, beating a struggling Max is all he needs to continue to do.

  6. Leclerc and Piastri got their starting positions on merit, then engaged in a race-long duel. Giving it to the winner, O.P.

  7. It’s got to be Mr P.
He aced it and no one could have driven better. Not Clark or Schumacher or Senna or Alonso or Raikkonen or Verstappen.

    1. Norris would have driven it better.

  8. I’m definitely a Norris fan as far as McLaren are concerned, but this weekend is Piastri’s, no question.

  9. I bet Alpine is gnashing it’s collective teeth seeing the driver they COULD had so so well.

    1. and the rest of the world is breathing a sigh of relief that McLaren pinched him.
Having him sit on the sidelines for one year was bad enough. Alpine are reaping what they sowed.

    2. And lost another driver who, while it won’t be for long, is better than Oscar. Does it really matter though? Cause the team doesn’t have a car to compete.

  10. This is a hard one for me, not due to a lack of stand-out performances but rather the opposite.

    Qualifying? Leclerc, Colapinto, Bearman
    Race? Piastri, Norris, Colapinto

So I guess overall, I gave it to Colapinto who beat Albon (albeit for unusual reasons) in qualifying, and kept up with him in the race quite decently. Even without the crash at the end, Colapinto would have scored a point by overtaking Hülkenberg.

    1. He would have beat Albon either way.

Alonso also out drove his car easily. Far more than Hulkenberg. Leclerc also got 100% iof his car. Sainz only got near Leclerc because of Piastri’s brilliant defense drive. However, the McLaren was faster.

  11. Max on zero.

Don’t get me wrong, there isn’t a chance that I would have voted for him, but I do wonder if her personally drove order of magnitudes worse than usual, or if that was just where the car was for him this weekend.

In some respects it is easier for a driver in a poor car to get recognition. If your in a Red Bull you are going to get ignored unless you qualify up front and are in the running for a podium.
