  1. Spectacular laps by both George and Max. I actually think Mercedes has the better car this weekend though. Hopefully this means a good sprint race tomorrow.

Big miss by Lewis, blaming the team for putting them out early when the same strategy almost meant pole for George.

Leclerc is third, but he had a bit of a scrappy lap. There was definitely more in it.

Big surprise for me is Haas, turning up with a very good car. Clearly best of the rest. Hulk again with another monster lap, qualifying ahead of a Mercedes.

The margins are small, hopefully that means close racing.

    1. +1 Russell made it work and Hamilton had the pace to get pole today without yet another mistake. He’s becoming a total bottler.

      1. I wouldn’t say that. Thought Lewis would do it. He has the pace, but seems to be losing a little consistency in qualifying. It’s no a unique problem. Leclerc and Lando are also lightning fast… if they put the lap together. George may be a bit more consistent in qualifying, but often doesn’t make it stick in the races. Perhaps Lewis and Leclerc will return for the race pole? The car does look twitchy. Even if we see a trend, it might have just been bad luck or anything that tripped Lewis up.

      2. Ben, I was only listening to the radio reports so haven’t seen it yet, but from what I could follow in the commentary, he was well up on Russell’s time when Colapinto spun ahead of him, he had to back off, and didn’t have time to start another lap. I don’t think that makes him a bottler.

        1. That sounds right. I was wondering if Hamilton was affected by the yellows. Since it wasn’t mentioned in the broadcast I thought I was wrong. Lewis had said this was the case, too.

        2. As we’ve seen, that’s not correct. He made a major mistake just moments before the yellow flag. With a car he likes, I’m sure Lewis will still have phenomenal pace though.

        3. No, that simply didn’t happen. He almost dropped it in the heavy braking zone. He did well to keep it on track, but that’s what cost him time. Track was green for him throughout his lap.

  2. Colapinto: fantastic. Is he a future world champion or is this how good the Williams is and they’ve had more of a driver problem than a car one?

I don’t know how Max keeps doing this. Sprint start will be interesting. George doesn’t mess about and neither does Max. Potential explosion, there. Same with Lewis and Magnussen, although I suspect he’ll look to survive the start and stay in the points.

    1. Neither does Brown or Lando. That’s why they’re focusing on excuses and allegations.

      1. Schumacher never won the world championship because something, something 1994. He personally installed the illegal autopilot software, launch control system and lasers from that car in all subsequent cars, until the virtuous folk at Mercedes put a stop to it!

        1. Thank the gods! or what Toto and Zak say when they see themselves in a mirror.

  3. I enjoy it a lot more when McLaren do their talking on the track. Still have time to work on the car and be stronger on the main event. I hope they arenit distracted.
