As expected, all drivers will start the race on the medium tyre compound.
The drivers are on their formation lap. He reports he’s hearing a clicking from his front-right brake when he hits them.
The sprint race is go! Verstappen holds his lead at the start. Lando Norris gets away well and is immediately up to second ahead of Russell.
Leclerc dives down the inside of Russell at turn 12 but can’t get the move done, they scrap through several corners which allows Verstappen and Norris to pull ahead.
L2 Leclerc has to defend fourth place from his team mate at turn 12. They then swap places twice at turn 15.
L3 The Ferrari drivers swap places again at turn one, Russell gets some breathing space.
Leclerc: “We’ve got to try and come back on the others, if possible.” Translation: Tell Sainz to leave me alone.
L4 Russell does a very quick first sector as he closes on the leading pair who are all within DRS range of each other.
L5 Russell takes a look at Norris at turn 12. Sainz finally sticks a move on Leclerc at turn 16 after his team mate when wide at turn 15.
L6 Norris says he’s struggling with the fronts. Russell has closed on him and is all over the McLaren in the slow turn 13-15 section.
Magnussen is being told to let Tsunoda through. “No way man, he pushed me out. Tell them to look again.” Slade: “We have to let him though.”
Joseph to Norris: “Verstappen is potentially damaging his rears more than we are.”
L8 Russell has slipped back from Norris and is now under attack from the Ferraris. Meanwhile Norris has begin chipping into Verstappen’s lead. Russell says his front-left tyre feels “rubbish.”
Alonso: “Man the AlphaTauri is such an idiot.” He gets boxed in behind Liam Lawson, the pair both passed by Esteban Ocon.
L9 Sainz launches down the inside of Russell at turn 15. The Mercedes driver goes off at the exit of the corner and gives up the place.
L10 It looks like an action replay of the previous lap as Leclerc passes Russell at turn 15 in exactly the same way his team mate did.
L11 Verstappen is responding to Norris’ approach from behind and gets his lead back up to over one-and-a-half seconds.
L12 Verstappen is now more than two seconds to the good at the front with six laps to go. Sainz is 1.7s behind Norris but his team mate may be within range of him soon.
L13 Perez manages to squeeze past Tsunoda, who comes back at him, retakes the place, then loses it again. He gets Perez defending at turn one but locks up. Piastri, who now has a five-second time penalty, is behind them.
RB tell Tsunoda to let Piastri through for going off. He is refusing for now.
L18 Norris is under severe pressure from the Ferraris as they approach the final lap.
L19 Norris locks up at turn one and Sainz is through into second on the last lap. The McLaren driver is struggling enormously and Leclerc nearly goes up the back of him.
Verstappen wins! Sainz second ahead of Norris and Leclerc.
The stewards have noted Norris for “driving erratically” for an incident at turn 15. Leclerc accused him of changing his line under braking.
