  1. Suspicious vsc-timing…

    1. Nothing suspicious. Just yet another unnecessary delay despite a clear-cut situation.

    2. Hulkenberg had already taken off his helmet and there were still yellow flags. I thought they were just going to leave the car there at that point. It’s hard to justify why it took so long.

      1. It’s hard to justify why it took so long, but despite the commentators saying they could get away with yellow flags, we all know in nowadays’ f1 a car this close to the track is always a SC or VSC, was just a matter of time, hence mclaren deciding to swap.

  2. McLaren ultimately did the swap everyone expected, which was wise to maximize points for the WDC.
Sainz was surprisingly slow the whole Sprint & Bearman also dropped quite a lot eventually.
Yet another questionable waiting game with the VSC deployment, even if immediate deployment meant no swap.

Another master class by McLaren in how NOT to handle a situation. It seemed like they were trying to make it as complicated as possible for themselves. The earlier you make the swap, the safer and the less it will sting for OP who must’ve felt like maybe they’ll let me win since they’re waiting so long. And they had plenty of opportunities to safely make the swap without having CL or MV come right up to Piastri’s wing. Horrible management by the team.

  4. That VSC needs to be investigated it just stinks in a bad way. Just waiting till the swap happens , they took their time to end it start it just in appropriate time. This just reeks.

  5. McLaren really needs to reconsider their strategy for the rest of the season if they care about the WDC. It makes no sense to keep their WDC candidate in the dirty air and risk attacks from other drivers (surely Leclerc and Verstappen are more incentivized to drive hard against Norris than Piastri). Not to mention, they got lucky with the timing and length of the VSC.

    1. They also potentially could have tried to help Leclerc stay in third if they had swapped earlier and allowed Oscar to drop to give Leclerc DRS. Instead they almost denied Norris victory and almost lost their 1-2

  6. If they give a penalty it ought to be a grid penalty since it’s an infringement under yellow and indeed under virtual safety car.

Disqualify the entire weekend I think.

      1. + 2 race bans + 10 penalty points

        1. 3 race bans, 20 penalty points and double for Alonso.

  7. Of all Sprints in Interlagos, this was the lamest. Not even a short circuit with 2 DRS zones can save this idea.

I assume Max is in (potential) trouble for ‘overlapping’ with the car ahead under VSC conditions. Whether he gets anything who knows, I’m not sure what the penalty is but I assume it’s something significant given it’s safety car conditions. changed nothing in the end so I’m assuming a reprimand at most tbh.

    1. Personally I’ll be surprised if he gets no real penalty as it’s essentially racing under yellow, Indeed it’s worse since it’s under vsc. I suppose it’ll depend if he was over the delta

  9. Why such a delay to VSC?

FIA don’t seem to realise how it looks to the outside and how fix or bias can easily be suspected when they do things like that.

If a the car is there for a lap with them all going past then it’s obviously safe but no we wait until McLaren swap and then throw the VSC which seals the results.

  10. A near disasterclass avoided by MCL. That they didn’t take advantage of the Max-Charles battle, when the gap was nearly 2 seconds, was baffling. I don’t see the logic of keeping Lando in dirty air for 20+ laps before executing the swap.

Williams better wake up because Alpine is about to overtake them. Who had Williams as P9 at the start of the season?

    1. The commentators on sky mentioned the very likely reason: piastri wanted to show that he earned the race win by leading until the swap towards the end; having said this I don’t think it’s wise to give norris a win for a measly point that won’t make any difference in the end, as piastri was the more deserving driver here.

An actual race would be different, as the swap would give 7 times as many points!

      1. I don’t think it’s wise to give norris a win for a measly point that won’t make any difference in the end

RBR seemed to think one point was valuable enough to have their “sister” team grab the FL from Norris using a driver who was just a couple laps from being ushered out of the door.
Add a single point to Hamilton’s tally in 2007, add a single point to Massa’s tally in 2008…

The sprint things are pretty Mickey Mouse affairs, but those mini points add up.
