  1. I’m not a fan of Verstappen, but credit where credit is due. This race he has demonstrated why he deserves to take the crown this year. Absolutely a class above the field this race.

And a huge shout out to Alpine. A way to maximise your opportunities. Just shows that maybe the car is not that bad and with a better engine things could be very different for them.

Was also expecting a lot more from Ferrari. Very bleak race. And the first pit stop gamble proved to be a mistake. Although, with the pace they’ve had (or didn’t, to be more precise), i don’t think it would’ve changed much.

McLaren… well, i think the drivers just made too many mistakes today.

And one final thing… is this the worst track recurfacing ever? I mean, it was nice to see all those sparks as a viewer, but i’m sure it’s not normal.

    1. Indeed, as much as I hated Max dominance the last few years he proved he deserves the crown, and Lando proved once again he is not ready yet for a WDC

    2. Of course credit where it’s due he drove fantastic but he got lucky, he couldn’t pass the cars ahead untill the safety car and subsequent red flag gave him the positions. I feel a better race was in store which the safety car call robbed us from.
A great first half from him, then he got lucky.

    3. Definitely a missed opportunity for Ferrari. Perhaps their newfound gentleness on the tyres has made them less suited to the notoriously cold wet tyres. Either way, this was a great time to score and Sainz in particular was really just quite poor.

  2. That’s a statement Max!

  3. Just wow. Wow.

  4. This is it. Max just made a statement today. I clapped after he crossed the line.

  5. A bit early for this. We’ll have to see how it works out with more potential penalties and DSQs.

  6. Absolutely epic from Verstappen, wow! Title-winning performance, brilliant.

  7. Huge points for Alpine

    1. Their car isn’t horrible when the motor/fuel efficiency isn’t the problem. Looks like they got a good setup, and managed to outclass the works Mercedes and Ferrari guys, good job to them. Hopefully when they get a better power unit, or at least something that is comparable, time will keep coming to them and they can decide on whether or not to work with Renault in the future on a power unit.

    Best of the Rest Championship*:
    1) Haas 617 (HUL 351, MAG 238, BEA 28)
    2) RB 521 (TSU 266, RIC 211, LAW 44)
    3) Alpine 497 (GAS 252, OCO 245)
    4) Williams 388 (ALB 220, COL 88, SAR 80)
    5) Sauber 261 (ZHO 133, BOT 128)

    * regular points structure for bottom 5 teams, incl. FLAP & Sprint points

  9. RIP Mercedes

    1. RIP *lewis

  10. As long as max is in F1, norris will never be champion. He can drive laps around norris in a Williams.

    1. He can drive laps around norris in a Williams.

Isn’t Max doing a good enough job without having to resort to hyperbole.

      1. Just emphasising how bad Norris has been

  11. With 86 points remaining in the season Leclerc is now mathematically out of the race – he is 86 points behind but can’t beat Max’s # of wins.

With Lando 62 points behind, Max in worst case situation (Norris scoring maximum points) needs just 24 more points.
Or said differently the sum of Max scored points + Norris lost points needs to reach 24.

Norris over the last 3 races (excl sprint) lost 40 points scoring 38 (4th, 2nd & 6th) out of maximum of 78 points.

Also interesting is that Alpine was the best scoring team in Brazil scoring 35 points beating Red Bull which scored 32 points (31 points Max and 1 point Checo).

Last year having the best car of the field Checo finished 2nd in WDC having less than 50% of the points Max scored.
This year Checo is dead last of top 4 team drivers having scored just 38% (151 vs 393) of the points Max scored.

That is already bad but Checo is largely helped by the first 6 races (103 vs 136), after Miami Checo was 2nd in WDC, 5 points ahead of Leclerc and 20 points ahead of Norris & Sainz.
If you excluded the first 6 races (Bahrain-Miami) it becomes 19% (48 vs 257), so in 15 races & 3 sprint races Checo only scored 48 points with Zandvoort being his best weekend scoring 8 points.

    1. You’re right to highlight the points scored by Perez early on.

It’s very hard to believe that Pérez is now driving the same car as Verstappen. He seems to be one or two specs behind given how the gap between them has just kept growing and growing.

Pérez has never been on Verstappen’s level, and he’s always held himself back with shenanigans in qualifying, but he’s now so far back it just doesn’t add up if we are to assume he’s driving the exact same car as Verstappen.

      1. Well the key difference is the competition – with the 4 teams relative really close the gap between Max & Perez is big enough for several other drivers to be in between.

With the Red Bull being a more problematic/erratic car since Miami the gap has widened because in that situation the driver skill/talent is making more of a difference – with that widened gap even more drivers get in between.

At last the general bad qualification results are now made worse because the cars are so close that making up positions is much more difficult and again Perez show less skill/talent in that department.
